We were lucky to catch up with Molly B recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Molly, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
I truly believe in stepping out of your comfort zone, and greatly attribute that to most of my accomplishments in life. As an only child, I feel like I didn’t have much of an idea what my life was suppose to look like, with no example ahead of me. I spent a lot of time on my own, and I often had to council myself through any obstacle I faced. That trust in myself, really led to me being curious about what was outside of my “norm”, what I could accomplish, and what more was out there for me. I always chose to dream big, even when it wasn’t the most realistic option.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the founder of Abstraction Savannah! I founded this company last year…and it has been such an exciting time, to see such a vision come together. I come from a family of artists, and I am so grateful to have had such cool and creative role models. I also have experienced definite financial hardship in my life, and watched my family suffer greatly because of it. Watching artists give up their dreams of working on their art full time, or even giving their craft up completely, is something that has always felt so wrong to me. There should always be space for art, and community to support it, even if financial struggle hits. So I created Abstraction – a space to show off with no entry fee, no profit percentages taken out, no stress on the artists. Just fun events, striving to build community, and give people an easy way to support those hustling to make their dreams reality. We are currently hosting fashion shows, and our first one was an amazing night, featuring 4 student designers, and over 15 models – some of which had never modeled before, and had never dreamed they’d get the shot to. I got the opportunity to work with so many incredible people here in Savannah, and help them build on what they’re doing, and them help me in return. Dreams building dreams. Our next show will be this spring – and we can’t wait!!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Communication! Communication is an essential skill, to build trust with those around you. I made sure I was fully versed on how I wanted to communicate my ideas for my business, plus was always thorough when explaining what I needed from those involved, and how much I appreciated their support!
Positivity, although it sounds cliche, NO ONE is looking out for your dreams the way you do. No one is coming to keep them going or hit your goals for you, so you have to stay positive even when the bumps in the road are hit, because you are the lifeblood of your vision.
Lastly, I would say being open-minded is crucial. I was very stubborn about what I wanted to present, how I wanted it done, and when I opened my mind to more and understood that not every story is linear, things can change a million times before they get to their end goal. It definitely helps to remind myself of that, so I never get down on myself when things don’t go exactly my way.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Abstraction is ALWAYS looking for artists of any kind to come show at these events! We’re hoping to showcase some things other than just fashion at this next show. We are looking for painters, potters, fashion designers, models, musicians, whoever! If you have something you want to show off – we want to work with you!
