We were lucky to catch up with Molly Bailey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Molly , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience, I believe, is woven into the fabric of our lives, capturing both our joyful moments and our toughest challenges. For me, it stems from personal reflection, community support, and my relationship with creativity. During difficult times, I lean on those around me; their shared laughter, heartfelt moments, and even tears remind me that I’m never alone.
Art serves as my refuge, a space where I can sort through my emotions. As I dabble in various mediums, especially design and sculpting, I find that the creative process (though sometimes frustrating) teaches me valuable problem-solving skills. Just as I have faced real-life experiences of loss and rebuilding, art has shown me that it’s okay to stumble and start over.
I’ve learned to see challenges as invitations to evolve. Every step in the process, whether in art or life, brings new lessons and the chance to cultivate greater strength. This perspective keeps me grounded, reminding me that resilience isn’t just about enduring tough times; it’s about emerging with renewed clarity and power.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m stepping into an exciting new chapter as a graphic artist at Warner Bros. Discovery, where I have the privilege of being part of the creative team at CNN Design. In this role, I craft on-air and digital graphics that transform complex messages into engaging visuals. My journey here has been anything but straightforward. After experiencing a reduction in force at the CDC (where I dedicated eight years of my creative career) I faced a series of personal challenges, including the loss of loved ones and navigating my emotional landscape. These experiences have profoundly tested my resilience.
Through it all, I’ve developed a deeper appreciation for creativity; it has provided much-needed guidance during this time. Now, at WBD, I’m inspired to collaborate with talented producers, journalists, and fellow designers to create work that connects with our audiences. Each project, whether it’s for breaking news or program branding, offers an opportunity to inform, inspire, and forge connections… something I’m truly passionate about.
Alongside my work at CNN, I’ve also embarked on a side project called “Mutt Muggs.” Here, I hand-sculpt personalized mugs for pet owners. This endeavor not only allows me to explore my artistic side but also brings me closer to fellow animal lovers.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, I believe the three most impactful qualities have been resilience, creativity, and adaptability.
1. Resilience has been crucial, especially during times of personal and professional upheaval. It’s essential to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. I encourage those early in their journey to cultivate a mindset that views setbacks as stepping stones rather than obstacles (trust the process).
2. Creativity is not just about artistic skills; it’s about problem-solving and finding unique solutions to complex challenges. I advise aspiring professionals to engage in diverse creative experiences, pushing boundaries and exploring new techniques. This will broaden their perspectives and enhance their ability to communicate ideas effectively.
3. Adaptability has been indispensable in navigating the evolving landscape of design and communication. I recommend embracing flexibility and being open to change, as the industry is continually shifting. Staying curious and willing to learn will help you thrive in any environment.
By developing these qualities, you can build a strong foundation for a fulfilling and impactful career.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Throughout my journey, I’ve recognized that people are our greatest resource, and countless individuals have supported me in overcoming challenges and developing essential skills. In college, my first experience in honing my craft came from engaging in healthy competition with my fellow artists, which pushed me to elevate my work and think more creatively.
The senior creatives I interacted with early in my career, especially at the CDC, offered profound insights, sharing their wisdom and experiences that continue to inspire me to guide others in the same way they guided me.
Now, in my current role, I continue to benefit from the support of those around me, who patiently answer my many questions and provide diverse perspectives. Their insights keep me on my toes and foster my growth, reminding me that collaboration and shared knowledge are vital to success.
