Meet Molly Gibson

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Molly Gibson . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Molly below.

Molly, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
It definitely started with my parents, who taught me the value of hard work from a young age. They made it clear to me and my four siblings that things like cell phones, cars and college degrees weren’t just going to be handed out, nor were we entitled to them just for existing (in a loving way), so around age 13 I was starting to take babysitting jobs to save up for a phone so I could text my friends. Flash forward to graduating college with two associates degrees with zero debt to my name, and I’d say the habit stuck.

I’d have to credit my upbringing in theatre as a great training ground for work ethic as well.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Although I love hopping around to new creative endeavors and challenges like teaching myself piano or guitar, starting new side businesses, trying standup, or gigging as a Taylor Swift tribute artist/impersonator (yes, true story), I am an actor above all.

I just filmed a Lifetime thriller at the end of 2023 and started off the new year with a national commercial, both of which I’m soooo excited about.

When I’m not on set, I run my virtual assistant business, which I’ve been doing for about 8 years and quite enjoy. It sure beats waitressing, which I might actually owe my present day career and life to – a fine dining college survival job so terrible I spontaneously rage quit (very unlike me) after about 4 years of being so wildly unhappy, both there and at school, that I finally had the push I needed to return to acting, this time professionally, and for good. I’ll never forget going to collect my college degree (I skipped graduation) and being asked by the counselor what I was going to do with it – “nothing – I’m going to be an actor!” It might have been the first time I smiled on that campus.

Also! I co-host a podcast I’m obsessed with called Confessions of a Millennial Drama Queen. It’s about our love for late 90’s/early 00’s movies and nostalgia and each week is either a movie review from that time or a relevant celebrity guest like a boy band or former child star millennials know and love. We have super exciting guests coming up soon – you can listen on all the platforms and watch on YouTube!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Grit, work ethic, and humility. And starting before you’re ready. Don’t talk yourself out of things, ignore imposter syndrome, reject fear and I think it will eventually reject you back. Or not and maybe it just sounds nice. But you will get much farther if you reject fear on a regular basis. Also, especially at the beginning of any new venture, you’re going to suck at some things at first, so embrace it and get it out of the way as soon as you can. One of my favorite quotes is “I never fail, I only learn”. So much is just about reframing things and controlling your mindset instead of letting your mind control you.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, always! Currently I’m doing more sketch comedy (weird sidebar – the paparazzi recognized and snapped one of my sketch partners for our “We’re Actors” series outside Craig’s the other day, and we were like, really, for this? You know who we are?” We were dying laughing. But anyway – I’m a comedy girl and I’m always looking for fellow actors/writers for online sketch comedy.

I’m also looking to potentially collaborate with some writers for a 2-person one act dark comedy or dramedy play I have in the works.

I do also work with my voice a lot as a vocalist, be it session work, live shows, or what have you, so I love lending my voice and collaborating with other musicians. My specialty is pop/r&b vocals as well as country.

Anyone interested in collaborating is welcome to DM me on Instagram. Just please don’t ask for feet pics (unless the price is right) (kidding).
