We were lucky to catch up with Monica Bhattacharya recently and have shared our conversation below.
Monica, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
When I began my career as an artist 14 years ago, I simply loved creating art and therefore thought that teaching could help me share that joy with others. I started teaching art to a few students as a hobby. I really never thought about my ultimate purpose in life at that time but as time passed by, I started wondering about it. It took me a long time to find answers.
Over the years, consistent feedback from students’ parents and clients provided me with some clarity. They often appreciated my focus on line drawing and stroke work, which improves hand dexterity—skills becoming rare in today’s digital world. There it was – I found my purpose! I wanted to teach classical art techniques to inspire today’s youth.
Additionally, creating art with deeper meaning and learning new techniques has become central to my purpose. When clients commission custom paintings or home portraits and are moved by my work, it reaffirms that there is always room for art in the world.
It is possible that one’s purpose in life can keep evolving. While I don’t know if my purpose will change in the future, for now, teaching as many students as I can, learning as much as I can, and creating thought-provoking art pieces seem to be my purpose.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m an artist and art instructor based in Frisco Texas, where I have the joy of both creating and teaching art. As the founder and owner of Monica’s Vibrant Strokes LLC, I immerse myself in a world of colors, patterns, and emotions. My artistic style is eclectic, reflecting a broad spectrum of themes and inspirations, but I have a particular passion for painting mandalas and pieces inspired by nature and life. These themes help me express my love for nature and spirituality..
In addition to creating art, I have a deep commitment to teaching art, particularly to the youth. As an instructor, I focus on providing young artists with a strong foundation in the fundamentals of art. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch them flourish as they learn to harness both techniques and their inner creativity, ultimately finding their own unique artistic voices.
I also take on commissioned work, such as Wall art, Home and Pet Portraits. These personalized pieces are a wonderful way to connect with my clients and create something deeply meaningful for them.
I am thrilled to share two very exciting pieces of news with you. First, I’m preparing for my upcoming solo exhibition at the Frisco Discovery Center from 09/09/2024 to 09/28/2024 with a reception for everyone on 09/14/2024 from 6.30 to 8.30 pm. This event is particularly special to me, as it will bring together my love for both the USA and India, weaving my roots with my present in a harmonious collection of art. I hope to see you there!
Additionally, I’m working on launching a new website, MonicasVibrantStrokes.com, which will serve as a digital gallery and a hub for my work and services. This new platform will make it easier for art enthusiasts to explore and purchase my pieces.
Moreover, I’m excited to introduce prints of my artwork, making my creations more accessible to a wider audience. This new venture will allow more people to bring a piece of my art into their homes, spreading the vibrant and meaningful expressions that I pour into each piece.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey so far, there are three qualities that have shaped my path as an artist and instructor: Regular practice, commitment to learning, and resilience. Consistent dedication to creating art has honed my skills and fostered creativity and self-expression. Embracing lifelong learning has been transformative, as art is a dynamic field with endless possibilities.
Most importantly, showing up every day, despite challenges, has been crucial. Setbacks are part of the process, and growth often occurs in adversity. My advice to emerging artists is to cultivate resilience, trust in your abilities, and stay committed to your vision.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Childhood is critical in shaping who we finally become, and my parents were the architects of my early life. I spent 25 years with them, learning invaluable lessons. One of the most impactful things they did for me was encouraging me to be a part of the family business from a young age. My parents opened a boutique when I was around 10 years old, and they let me participate in all the business activities. I developed a love for the business and spent many days of my childhood learning firsthand about consumer behavior, marketing, and several other key management concepts that people usually learn later in life through formal education or jobs.
During the 15 years I worked in our family boutique, I saw my parents build their business from scratch with tireless dedication. Watching them taught me the importance of work ethic, integrity, self-motivation, and maintaining quality. They thrived because of their genuine care for their customers, which I strive to emulate in my own work. I want my customers to truly enjoy what they buy from me, whether it’s my artwork or even cherish what I taught them during my classes. As my parents have taught me throughout my life, I have dedicated myself to providing high quality service to all my students and clients.
