Hi Monica , great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
Life is all about taking risks. While there are no guarantees, I firmly believe in moving forward with determination and taking that leap of faith. Success may not come immediately, but when it does, the risks become worth it. Embracing the mindset of “having nothing to lose” has been pivotal for me. Risks lead to growth, sparking new ideas and opportunities. Even in the face of failures, I see them as valuable learning experiences and consider each setback a step toward victory.
Starting Pallet to Palate during the peak of the pandemic was a tremendous risk. Balancing part-time work with the uncertainty of a new venture was challenging. However, I decided to take the plunge, quitting my other job to devote myself entirely to the business. It was a bold move, hoping and believing that it would blossom into something meaningful. And indeed, it did! This journey has been a testament to the power of taking risks, and it has left me exhilarated for the future that lies ahead.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As the owner of Pallet to Palate, a charcuterie catering business in San Diego, I have been on an exciting and fulfilling journey. I started three years ago, bringing small groups of friends together for adventure dinners, which evolved into the unique dining experience of Pallet to Palate. While my initial focus was mostly on intimate outdoor picnic set-ups, this year, I have shifted my attention to larger events, such as weddings and corporate gatherings. In addition, we are also now offering a convenient “charcu-TO-GO-rie” package, allowing you to effortlessly carry and enjoy your customized charcuterie board at any event or party. What sets us apart is our focus on creating personalized and custom-made charcuterie experiences for our clients. The atmosphere, attention to detail, and simplicity of what we offer make our brand stand out.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities that significantly impacted my journey were embracing imperfection and starting with what I had, understanding my target clientele, and being open to feedback and continuous improvement. My advice to those starting their own journey is to take the first step without waiting for perfection, focus on what you do best, and always remain open to learning and evolving.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
