Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Monica Mcmahon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Monica, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
This is such a powerful question—because I’ve learned that we’re often most drawn to what we need the most.
I’m currently immersed in the world of wellness—teaching individuals, families, and corporations how to move, breathe, and align their energy through yoga, meditation, Pilates, coaching, and Reiki. I’ve been blessed to work in this space for over two decades, and even had the honor of guiding Dr. Deepak Chopra through a yoga practice while he was in town—a moment that deeply affirmed the sacredness of this path.
And yet, for a long time, I didn’t truly know how to love myself. I was the classic over-giver: always busy, doing for others, showing up—but silently running on empty. I taught self-care, but didn’t live it. I preached, but didn’t practice.
Everything shifted about five years ago when I made a radical decision—to become the VIP on my own calendar. I realized that the burnout, the aches, even the anxiety, were signals. My coping mechanisms—people-pleasing, perfectionism, and productivity—were standing in for the self-love I hadn’t yet cultivated.
Now, self-care is my daily devotion. It’s not always glamorous—some days it’s a quiet 5-minute meditation, a journal entry, a nap, a call to a dear friend, or petting the dog. Other days, it’s a luxurious walk on the beach or a bath. The key is joy. I do something just for me every single day.
This consistent practice has transformed not just my personal life, but my professional one too. As a coach, trainer, and retreat leader, I show up more present, more grounded, and more magnetic—because I’m serving from a place of wholeness, not depletion.
Self-care isn’t selfish. It’s sacred. And it’s the foundation of everything I now teach.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Before fully stepping into the wellness space, I worked in HR and Organizational Development—supporting leaders, teams, and organizations through innovation and change management. That experience gave me a deep understanding of human potential, which I now blend with over two decades in the wellness industry as a trainer, coach, retreat leader, and energy practitioner.
I help people realign with who they truly are—body, mind, heart, and soul.
As a trainer, coach, retreat leader, Reiki Master, and Chopra-certified Primordial Sound Meditation instructor, I blend movement, mindfulness, and energy healing to create transformational experiences. I currently lead mind-body (yoga, pilates, meditation) classes and experiences at The Boca Raton Resort where I have been blessed to teach since 2013.
I also love giving back to the community. Each week, I host beach yoga by donation at sunrise, and throughout the year, I partner with the Waterstone Resort to lead fundraising wellness events that benefit local nonprofits—I love connecting healing with a heart-centered community. There is something really magical that happens when we gather, breathe, move and give back.
As a Chopra-certified Primordial Sound Meditation instructor, Reiki Master, and longtime movement educator, I bring a deeply integrative and intuitive approach to everything I do. One area I specialize in is helping clients release the physical manifestations of stress and trauma—especially in the hips. It is such a joy to witness how when we pause, listen to the body, connect to our ‘beingness’ how easy it can be to release stuck energies through movement, breath, and energy healing. I am blessed to be able to do what I do and absolutely love supporting my clients on their healing and wellness journey.
My greatest joy is leading transformational retreats. Since 2004, I’ve traveled the world curating experiences that are both fitness-focused and soul-deep—from solo immersions to group gatherings. Whether I’m working with a CEO, a busy mom, a group of fitness enthusiasts, my mission is always the same: to help people return to their center and tap into their infinite potentiality…. their superpower with alignment.
I am super excited about our upcoming Goddess Within Retreat in Portugal (November 2025). It is a sacred invitation for women ready to reconnect with joy, power, and purpose through movement, sisterhood, and soul exploration. This our annual international retreat and the magic that unfolds on these retreats is hard to put into words. I can’t wait to see who else joins us.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If I had to name the three most important qualities that have shaped my personal and professional path, they would be:
The courage to take a chance on the unknown
Trusting in the process, even when the how is unclear
Learning to lead from the heart instead of the head
These weren’t skills I was born with—they were earned through life’s most challenging moments.
It took tremendous courage to walk away from the known and safe in order to build a life that felt true. That leap showed up in many ways: leaving a traditional corporate path, saying yes to teaching my first retreat abroad, and even choosing to heal in ways that were unfamiliar to those around me. But each time I stepped into the unknown, I was met with growth I never could’ve imagined.
The second quality—trusting in the process—became my anchor when life made no sense. I’ve faced deep trauma: nearly losing both of my sons, the sudden passing of my mother, severe toxicity poisoning, and undergoing hip replacements all within a span of 3 years forced me to pause, let go of trying to control and to yes, trust. I didn’t always have a plan, but I learned to trust something better was unfolding.
And finally, shifting from living in my head to leading from my heart changed everything. The mind will try to calculate safety, but the heart knows truth. Once I began making decisions from that quieter inner voice, I stepped into alignment—and with it came joy, clarity, and an overflowing desire to help others do the same.
To those just beginning: don’t wait for permission. Start small. Start scared. But start. That first courageous “yes” to yourself is what transforms scared into sacred. It’s a simple and powerful shift—like changing the order of the letters A and C—and yet it changes everything.
If these words are resonating with you, this may be your sign.
Get quiet enough to hear what your heart is really saying.
Then trust it—and let your life rise to meet that truth.
And when in doubt? Move your body.
It already knows what your mind hasn’t yet remembered.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal clients are spiritually curious, compassionate souls who believe in living fully—and are ready to invest in their growth. Many arrive at a turning point or feel a quiet longing to reconnect with their deeper truth or that there is something more waiting to be tapped into from within. They’re open to working on all levels—physical, mental, emotional, and energetic—and they value experiences that blend depth with beauty, and soul work with joy.
Some are drawn to my group retreats, seeking sisterhood, nature, and transformation. Others come to co-create custom adventure fitness focused retreats— journeys designed just for them, their friends and family. I work with both individuals and corporations who are ready to step away from the noise and into sacred, intentional space. We work together to co-create their ideal retreat, workshop, experience.
If you’re willing to get a little uncomfortable in order to feel lighter and more aligned—we’ll work beautifully together.
Thank you for taking the time to be curious enough to read this.
And remember:
