Meet Monika Angelini

We were lucky to catch up with Monika Angelini recently and have shared our conversation below.

Monika , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
Being optimistic hasn’t always been easy for me, when I was growing my parents were very strict. I was constantly seconded guessing myself and had low self esteem. I found that I was always thinking of the worst-case-scenario, before anything had even gone wrong. It felt like a dark raincloud followed me everywhere, casting a shadow on all the fun I could’ve been having.

In the eighth grade, I read a poem that helped me redefine the way I was looking at the world; Solitude, by: Ella Wheeler Wilcox. It starts, “Laugh, and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.” continues on, “…be glad, and your friends are many, be sad and lose them all…”

This poem helped me make the connection between the way my life was, and the way I thought my life should be. I realized that the more I decided to surrender my furrowed brow and allow life to lead me away from my comfort zone, the more peace and happiness I experienced. I met new friends, ate new food, went to new places. I started seeing the good in life, in others, and in myself.

My optimism comes from a journey of waking up in the morning and acknowledging that, “I don’t know what today is for, I don’t know what will happen, I may have an idea, but things change. What I am certain of, is that I can enjoy today no matter what. I can find a way to make the worst-case-scenario likable, it’s my decision.”

Because, the truth is, only today is today. Today is never tomorrow, it’s never yesterday. Some may say that it’s Monday or Tuesday, but it’s really just today. So, when I say, today is the best day, then it is. And, I can say it’s the best day, everyday.”

Don’t get me wrong, there are still tough days here and there, but even those I choose love, because I can get through them, I can have a hearty laugh at them, I can learn from them. And, remind myself of how I’m blessed with another chance to have a best day today!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Monika Angelini, I am the creator of The Original Sunburn Soap, a soap that washes away sunburn in one day. Recently, I’ve just been enjoying the summer, getting outside, relaxing in nature. Trying to live everyday like I’m on vacation!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Don’t take yourself too seriously! Life is about being happy, not being right. 2. Enjoy the journey, the “hard parts” don’t have to be the “only parts.”
3. Give your best. Don’t cheat yourself because others do, give your best effort and I guarantee you, no matter what it is,
it will be worth it in the end.
