Meet Monique Brissett

 

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Monique Brissett a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Monique with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I come from a unique background—first-generation Jamaican parents who moved to the United States at a young age, driven by the need to succeed and build a better future. Being raised in an environment where hard work and resilience were non-negotiable, I was instilled with a strong sense of independence from a young age. My father, a Marine and a proud Jamaican, was a huge influence in my life. He taught me the value of tough love and responsibility. He was the reason I got my first job at just 14 with a work permit, starting at Dunkin’ Donuts. Balancing school and work taught me early on how to juggle multiple responsibilities and develop a strong work ethic.
This foundation of independence, self-mastery, and resilience carried me through nursing school, which I started in high school. I balanced the demands of rigorous academics, and attending clinicals at the hospital every other week, with working at ‘Aldo’ in the local mall on the side. It introduced me to the world in a way that many may not experience until later in life, and it sparked a deep sense of awareness about myself and others.
At 19, I began to explore my passion for fashion by launching my jewelry line, Lilette Jewelry—while continuing my collegiate nursing studies. This was a pivotal moment in my life, as I learned to balance the world of business with the demands of working as a nurse. Eventually, I earned my master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner, and with that same drive, I am now rebranding my fashion line as Lilette Luxe, merging my passions for fashion and business.
The work ethic instilled in me by my parents, coupled with my own experiences and challenges, has been the driving force behind everything I’ve accomplished. It’s this unwavering commitment to pursuing my dreams, no matter the obstacles, that shapes the way I approach everything in my life—from nursing to entrepreneurship—and continues to fuel my journey toward building something bigger than myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Lilette Luxe is my truest passion, as it seamlessly combines my love for creativity with my desire to make a positive impact on others. This brand isn’t just about fashion; it’s about empowerment. Lilette Luxe is a space where people can truly shine on their own, express their individuality, and embrace their uniqueness through luxury and original designs. What excites me most is how this brand fosters a community of influencers, trendsetters, artists, and anyone who shares a passion for self-expression and authenticity.

Beyond the fashion itself, Lilette Luxe is dedicated to supporting and uplifting others. Whether through charitable initiatives or collaborations with fellow artists, I want the brand to be a force for good—one that helps others rise and grow, just as I’ve been supported along my journey. The sense of connection within our community is what makes Lilette Luxe so special. We’re reintroducing the brand with fresh ideas, and I’m thrilled to share that we’ll be expanding our offerings to include more luxury pieces, all while staying true to our core values of originality and community.Stay tuned for some exclusive launches that I believe will inspire even more people to step into their own light.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I would say the three qualities that had the biggest impact on my journey are drive, ambition, and resilience. Life is a process, and often we have to ride the waves before we can truly see how things unfold. With the right mindset, solid principles, and determination, you’ll find that every step—no matter how challenging—moves you closer to where you’re meant to be. Even when things feel dark or uncertain, trust that they will eventually align in your favor. The key is to stay focused, remain persistent, and keep pushing forward.

For those just starting their journey, my advice would be to cultivate these qualities early on. Develop a strong sense of drive by setting clear goals and working tirelessly toward them, even when progress seems slow. Ambition is vital to keep you looking forward, aiming higher, and refusing to settle for less than what you truly want. And finally, resilience—life will test you, but it’s the ability to bounce back from setbacks, learn from them, and keep going that will ultimately determine your success. Embrace the process, stay true to your vision, and keep the faith that everything is working out, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

Specifically, I’m interested in collaborating with fashion videographers, photographers, models, and content strategists who can bring fresh, innovative ideas to the table. I’m also looking to partner with other artists and brands that resonate with the core values of Lilette Luxe, to create something impactful and beautiful together. The goal is to cultivate a solid, passionate team that helps elevate the brand while supporting one another’s growth.
