Meet Monique Impagliazzo

We recently connected with Monique Impagliazzo and have shared our conversation below.

Monique, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I’m extremely grateful to have parents who have encouraged me to chase my dreams, but ultimately it was up to me to do the work. I choose to be optimistic because I love what I do. I’m a film director and even though there’s a lot that we are responsible for on set, it’s my job to tell a compelling story. Seeing words on a page come alive on screen is incredibly exciting. I can make someone feel or think a certain way and my only hope is they are better because of it. Although this business is incredibly competitive, if I didn’t have optimism then what is the point?

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a Director, Writer and a Producer with over 15 years of experience in Film, TV, Documentaries and Music Videos. I recently launched my own film company, Manifesting Productions and we create media that promotes acceptance in a world of eclectic differences. My latest project is Roslyn Kind’s Music Video, “The Look of Love/The Island.” You can find It on YouTube by clicking on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmRfaNMPe3M This was Rozzie’s first time producing and starring in her own music video and I was honored when asked to direct. I couldn’t have done this project without Producer Malek Hanna who is also an extremely talented Singer and Actor. The music video recently won Best Cover at the Rome Music Video Awards. Currently, I’m raising funds for a feature film I wrote with April Doctolero titled, “Ready, Set, Christmas.” The film follows a successful set decorator who returns home to save Christmas and rekindles a flame with a woman who was once her best friend. The film is being produced by Suzi Nash, Phuong Nguyen and Diana Hull of Three Left Handed Women. Click on this link for more information. https://3lhw.allyrafundraising.com

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Along the way, I have developed my own style of how to deal with different situations and it’s important to be aware of that as you are learning to navigate the business you are in. Always double check your work, often we are rushing through the day but make sure to take the time to do that and lastly if someone is helping you, always ask how you can help them. The advice that I would give is make sure you believe in yourself, if you don’t no one else will. Always be the hardest working person in the room and take risks, lots of them.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played an important role in your development?
The book “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz was given to me by Producer Diane Kirman very early in my career. The book is short and right to the point. 1. “Be impeccable with your word.” If you are going to say you are going to do something, do it. 2. “Do not take anything personally.” Someone else’s opinion of you is none of your business. 3. “Do not make assumptions” self explanatory and 4. “Always do your best.” It’s all anyone will ever need, no more and no less.
