Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Monique Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Monique, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Over the years, I’ve learned to manage imposter syndrome by grounding myself in the results of my work and the trust placed in me. Stepping into a role where I oversee Downtown Hott Radio and support the operations of more than 50 sister stations came with its own pressure, but I made a conscious decision to lean into preparation, discipline, and clarity. Instead of questioning whether I belonged, I focused on the systems I built, the consistency I brought, and the value I delivered daily. Managing content flow, ensuring brand alignment across multiple markets, and keeping stations running smoothly reminded me that my contributions were earned, not accidental. Over time, confidence came from experience showing up, solving challenges, and staying committed to excellence. That’s how I pushed past the doubt and grew into the responsibility I carry today.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I oversee social media management and administrative operations for Downtown Hott Radio and its 50 sister stations, ensuring our content, branding, and daily workflow run seamlessly across multiple markets. What’s most exciting about my role is being at the center of creative and strategic operations helping our teams share compelling stories, highlight talent, and engage audiences in real time.
What sets our brand apart is our ability to connect communities through authentic content, whether it’s music, culture, or events, while maintaining a professional, polished presence online. Lately, I’ve been focused on expanding our digital engagement, launching new campaigns, and optimizing our multi-station coordination to keep audiences engaged across varying markets, days, and times. My goal is to ensure Downtown Hott Radio continues to innovate, inspire, and amplify voices that matter.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that have been most important in my journey are organization, adaptability, and strategic thinking. Managing Downtown Hott Radio and its 50 sister stations requires strong organizational skills to keep content, schedules, and teams coordinated across multiple markets. Adaptability is key, as the media landscape and audience needs are always evolving. Lastly, strategic thinking allows me to plan campaigns, optimize social media, and ensure our brand stands out. For anyone early in their journey, I’d advise focusing on building these skills through hands-on experience, mentorship, and constantly learning from both successes and challenges.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Throughout my journey, I’ve been fortunate to have mentors, colleagues, and industry leaders who guided me along the way. My team at Downtown Hott Radio has been especially supportive, offering insight, feedback, and encouragement as I navigated the challenges of managing multiple stations and social media platforms. I’ve also learned a lot from observing leaders in media and radio, studying how they handle pressure, engage audiences, and adapt to industry changes. Their guidance has been invaluable in helping me build the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to succeed.
