Meet Monizz

We were lucky to catch up with Monizz recently and have shared our conversation below.

Monizz, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
There are two things that help keep my creativity alive. One my personal life from moments that have marked me as a person, whether those days I was feeling desolate, excited, or just another regular day to find muse for my lyrics or anything else I work on.
Two would have to be my team with Uno Dos Studios, they help cultivate a space for creativity whether it’s, collaborating with another artist, working on a new shoot, or even working on a new outfit. Having a great team where we can bounce ideas off each other helps keep the creativity alive.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a young girl, I would use the remote as a microphone and pretend to be my favorite artist I always saw myself wanting to perform and create my own music. It feels like i’m manifesting my career. Started performing covers at local venues, including a singing contest on a tv show. I met my producer Jerrish six years ago, we’ve been partners ever since. When we started working together, I began composing my own lyrics. Getting new music out, content, and booking shows for my fans is definitely our main focus. Having someone/team to help create is marvelous. This year I’ll be performing in the PRIDE FESTIVAL at the Civic Center June 22nd and 23rd. I would like to thank every single person who has reached out to support the brand we call Monizz they are what makes this exciting and so special.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back some qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have been most impactful on my journey have been learning to communicate with people and learning, from my mistakes. These things have impacted the way I move forward. A quality that has been impactful is having discipline in the goals I want to achieve. Still on my journey some advice I have to best develop on these is the road gets a little bumpy, you might even consider giving up at some point. Never under estimate yourself, remember the goals you want to achieve, be thankful of where you stand in the moment. Be aware nothing happens over night worth doing. Open up to constructive criticism most of the time we let our ego get the best of us. Most importantly surround yourself with people that motivate you to keep thriving and believe in you.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I’m feeling overwhelmed I count on my team to lean on. Over time I’ve learned to prepare strategically and not stress over details or issues outside of my control. If video shoots or events are not going as planned it can be stressful. Such as wardrobe malfunctions. equipment failure etc. but remember that things happen for a reason and learn for next time.
