We recently connected with Monté Harris and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Monté, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My purpose started my sophomore year of high school. I found out about graphic design and I was truly intrigued. I felt like it was another way to exercise my creativity outside of sports. As time progressed Ive gotten better at my craft. I went off to college and my major was in graphic design. I started my company, Harris J. designs in November 2019. Harris J. designs fulfills any graphical needs such as logos, business cards, but we mainly sell apparel. The first line is my motivational line and the goal is to uplift others as well as yourself. Not only will you look good, The idea behind Motivational Apparel came from my experiences as a college student. I saw the need for motivation and support around campus and decided to do something about it. My mother’s saying of, “sometimes you have to be your own cheerleader,” finally made sense and inspired me to come up with this line. From my upbringing , I knew uplifting others and exhibiting positivity was my purpose.

Harris J. Designs is a brand founded by myself, Monté Harris. Prior to starting my brand, I knew that I wanted to design art to uplift others as well as promote self-love. Not only will you look good, but you will also feel good!I am extremely excited to be able to make the world a better place by uplifting others through my brand. I saw the need for motivation and support around the world and decided to do something about it. As years progressed , We took the time out to rebrand our products! We have a new look, better products and more motivational words. What sets this brand apart is that we truly want you as an individual to get 100 percent better each day! As a brand, we are diverse and believe in selling quality products at an affordable price. My designs touch the world at large as it accommodates all age groups and cultures. There is something on my website for everyone. I am passionate about what I do and love impacting people with my work.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The first Quality is to believe in yourself. God has blessed you with a talent/vision ; so its only right to fulfill your purpose. Second Quality is to never give up. In the process of your journey, Learn and grow along the way. The last quality is to Trust God.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The book that I recommended is Balance by Touré Roberts. Before reading this book, I had a hard time with balancing my social life, my business and work. Roberts teaches that balance is a state of existence, a becoming that, when realized, not only brings forth the highest version of an individual but optimizes their life’s output, productivity, relational value, and overall achievement. Since reading , I have a better understanding of how to maneuver in the game of life and how to balance everything that I have going on in my life. 10/10 I recommend !
