We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Montez Alford. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Montez below.
Montez, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
What is my purpose? The million-dollar question that oftentimes in the eyes of the one questioning it, can never be determined overnight. Your purpose has everything to do with your inception, your journey, your lessons, your heartaches, your accomplishments. I’ll never forget the time my father shared “Montez be glad you’re going through a storm at a time in your life you’re young enough to grow through it and wise enough to learn from it.” Through these peaks and valleys, twists and turn, ups and downs is where the unveiling of my purpose began. My mother told me from the time I was a young child I would always say “I want to be a doctors secretary” I laugh to myself imagining how that statement must have come across with such conviction. The inception of my purpose began at a young age but developed when I landed my first full time job working in a physician’s medical group. This job allowed me to see first hand the genuine desire an individual has to gain comfort, encouragement and a sense of relief from a trusted source. While attending college I developed the necessary skills to excel professionally while still not fully understanding where my aspirations would lead me. Later in life, I realized that my purpose was right in front of me the whole time. As my mother said, I didn’t stop long enough to smell the roses but rather chose to remain in pursuit of something that was right before my eyes. I declared it, I was drawn to it, I was inspired by it, I studied how to improve it, but yet wasted years ignoring it. Alas, through my journey, lessons, heartaches, and accomplishments my purpose was found.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am the mother of two beautiful children and three beautiful grandchildren. I love to sit seaside and enjoy the beauty of the ocean and get invigorated from hiking the Carolina Mountains. I understand that I’m divinely designed to fulfill my Purpose on Purpose. I trust the most high and utilize my GPS (God Powered Steering) to lead me through my journey. I stepped out on faith to create both my for profit consulting company, CORT Collaboration of Resources & Technology LLC and my non profit Sword of Change Inc.
At the helm of CORT Collaboration of Resources & Technology LLC, my focus is on revolutionizing healthcare for patients, providers and our veteran community. With a career that spans nearly two decades, I bring a wealth of knowledge in organizational leadership, project management, and revenue cycle management. My tenure with large Healthcare Organizations, Public Health, and Consulting honed my ability to manage change and risks, particularly in operational readiness and revenue cycle processes.
The competencies gained through spearheading revenue cycle workflows and developing compliance monitoring tools are instrumental in my entrepreneurial venture. Leading CORT Collaboration of Resources & Technology LLC, we are dedicated to optimizing healthcare delivery through strategic and transformative initiatives to create an atmosphere where clinicians are focused on patient continuity of care while our team is focused on building strong business relationships and consistent long term financial growth. My non profit organization is inspired by my family’s military legacy and a deep commitment to supporting veterans and their families. Understanding the unique challenges faced by military families, particularly in relation to PTSD, I established Sword of Change Inc to provide comprehensive support services.
Our mission is to offer a holistic approach to supporting veterans and their families, providing counseling, peer support groups, educational resources, family therapy, and evidence-based interventions. We create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where veterans and families can openly discuss their struggles and receive support tailored to their needs. Visit us at www.swordofchange.org
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Compassion. Be your authentic self while learning to look through the lens of others.
Persistence. Yes, you will encounter obstacles, you will experience hardship, but you got this! Keep your eye on the prize and persistently defy the odds of defeat!
Commitment. Empathy leads to trust and trust leads to commitment.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Letting me go through life challenges without always throwing me a life vest. “Montez be glad you’re going through a storm at a time in your life you’re young enough to grow through it and wise enough to learn from it.”
