Meet MoReese Madu

We recently connected with MoReese Madu and have shared our conversation below.

MoReese, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Looking back, I developed my work ethic from my family. My parents worked hard doing jobs they didn’t like to provide for me and my siblings. And my grandma was a hard-working businesswoman and always had money to spare. Watching them make things happen taught me to work both smart and hard to attain what I wanted. So in elementary school, I cut grass, in middle school, I swept hair for the barbershop, and in high school I ran the sound system at my church. And while other kids were broke and begging their parents for money, I always had my own.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m an author, screenwriter, and film producer. In 2021, founded Afrovisions Media, an independent multi-media company that produces books, films, and digital projects. Currently, I’m taking a backseat to publishing books and am focused more on producing films. My first feature film, Differences, will be released on September 1, 2023 on TUBI TV.

My goal as a screenwriter and producer is to tell empowering black stories with universal themes. I have several written scripts that I plan to produce next. And I’m also a screenwriter for hire on select projects and one of my scripts is in development at another production company. After I produce of slate of films, I hope to invest in other upcoming filmmakers.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say the 3 most important skillsets that any aspiring writer, filmmaker, or entrepreneur should develop, are: mindset, craft, and business acumen.

I believe having the right mindset will decide your failure or success. If you don’t believe you can do something, then you most likely won’t. And if you have a bad attitude or undealt-with traumas, you will ruin the relationships you need to get ahead. So starting a daily practice of either meditation or self-affirmation to reprogram your mind from limiting beliefs is vital.

As for craft, you should strive to become the best at whatever you do. The better you are at something, the more opportunities you will create for yourself. You can’t expect great things unless you are willing to become great!

And last, but not least, business acumen. I believe everyone needs to understand the business they are in. If not, you open yourself to becoming prey to bad deals.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
One of the most impactful books I’ve ever read was As A Man Thinketh by James Allen. It’s short book but it’s filled with ancient wisdom on the power our habitual thoughts have on our lives. It pretty much lays out the blueprint for success by taking control of your mind. I recommend this book to anyone seeking to take control of their circumstances.
