Meet Morgan Martinez

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Morgan Martinez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Morgan, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

The ultimate role model for generosity is Jesus Christ. The way that God was generous in sending his only son down in human form is a hard concept for many of us to grasp. It’s because that kind of humility and generosity (the kind where you serve those who don’t deserve to be served) is unfortunately so rare in this world. As I grow in my relationship with Jesus, I desire to be more like him in the way He loves others. I often pray, “Lord help me to see them the way you see them, and love them the way you love them.” Generosity is a heart posture. I am only able to be generous in serving others because of the Holy Spirit that lives inside of me.

With that being said, I am not Jesus. We as humans fall short. I was not always a follower of Christ who truly understood this kindness because I did not know Him. I’m so thankful I get to continue to learn now how to love others well. Everyday we wake up and try again.

Before I was walking with Christ, I had an incredible human role model of such selfless acts of service. My mother. I am blessed to have been watching first hand someone who lays her life down for others. Someone who serves so humbly, effortlessly, and with an attitude of “how can I go the extra mile for you today?” Her spirit of generosity for serving others has been something that I have always noticed and admired. She is so special and God has truly uses her on this side of Heaven.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am the founder of a women’s ministry named Gospel Girls. We are located all across DFW. Our ministry works to connect women who seek having a relationship with Jesus to other Christian women. We strive to host gatherings such as small groups or women’s conference events to get the girls together. We focus on studying the Bible, whether it be for the first time or with someone who has been walking for a while.

What’s most exciting? Watching someone being welcomed into the Kingdom for the first time. I love being part of that first step in their journey because I remember being them. I remember being 27 and walking through the hardest season of my life. Someone sat with me. Someone made sure I felt seen by God and met me with truth and light. I love being a carrier of the Holy Spirit because I get to tell people about Him. I get the opportunity to get someone excited about Jesus and for that, I am honored.

We have a women’s event coming up in Fort Worth on November 10, 2024. Here, we will join women from all over, as well as the small groups we’ve been spread out in. It’ll be like a family reunion, and if you’re a girl who believes in Christ or is curious about getting to know Him deeper, you’re invited!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Not sure if these are pieces of advice, skills, or areas of knowledge, but here are some things I would’ve loved to know on day one.

1. Welcome others who have the right heart posture to journey with you as you’re building. Delegate tasks to those you trust. Build others up and give them opportunities to lead. Together, we all grow. Honor those who are willing.

2. Be authentic. It’s too hard and too much work to pretend to be someone else. If you are consistently yourself, you don’t have to put on a show. You won’t be the smartest person in the room all of the time and this doesn’t mean you’re not equipped. Just be yourself. You were created for this by God – because of who YOU are called to be, not because of who you’ve pretended to be. He gets the glory in your authenticity.

3. Don’t let anyone’s advice or opinion about what God is calling you to do be louder than what God is telling you to do. Trust Him when He says GO! He will never leave your side, but others may… and that’s okay.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

I read a devotional book called Believing for Bigger by Marshawn Evans Daniels in the beginning stages of getting the courage to start the ministry. The Lord really spoke to me there as He began to encourage me and remind me that I can do difficult things when I depend on His help. It showed me that He has a plan for my life and that He has a dream for me that is different than the original dream I had for myself. The book exudes confidence in Christ. My best friend Maritza and I read it at the same time and it really built us both up in pursuing the new dreams God had planted in our heart.
