Meet Morgan Schneider

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Morgan Schneider a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Morgan, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Time and practice! Self confidence doesn’t just appear out of the blue- at least it didn’t for me. I have a lot of people ask me how I’m able to listen to my own voice so often for work. It seems like people really hate hearing their own voice, and for a while, so did I! But after long enough, you start to become comfortable with yourself, I’ve found. I think the first step is taking time to listen or look at the things you create, and try your hardest to appreciate them.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Morgan Schneider! I started doing amateur voice work in late 2019 under the screen name MothballsVA, just making things I thought were funny or interesting and posting them online for a very small audience. As I kept on doing voice work, though, I really started to find my real voice and real self inside my work. I came out as transgender in mid 2020, and it’s all because I took a step to start creating and took the time to find who I was through it.

I’m still doing lots of voice work today, under my own name and as Mothballs, and I love every second of it. Each project is a new chance to grow and improve, and find new aspects of myself too!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think there are three really important things that got me to the point I’m at as a creative. First of all was the ability to try. I Lots of people ask how to start doing voice acting, and it’s the same answer every time: just give it a shot! Put your voice over something you like, practice when you can, and start creating. I think that applies to all aspects of life, too. You’ve gotta start somewhere.

In that same vein, perseverance is important too. I think we’ve all had times where our progress starts to plateau, we don’t feel like we’re making progress or growing. Sometimes it even feels like you’re slipping backwards, but there’s always a breakthrough somewhere; it’s just about making it there.

Thirdly is kindness. It’s kinda corny and cheesy, I know, but it’s at the heart of everything. The most important thing in life, to me anyway, are the people you’re with, and without a little softness and kindness, it’s impossible to meet the people who will make it all worth doing!

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

There’s a lot of faces in my life who have helped me be the woman I am today, but I’ve gotta narrow it down to a few here.

My mom and dad have been so essential in my life for as long as I can remember. They’ve supported me through everything I’ve gone through, and taught me kindness and boldness from day one until now.

My friends are probably the other most instrumental people in my life. They’re a group of good and supportive people who are always with me no matter what I’m going through. Just to name a few, Michael Vale, Carlito Lopez, Erin Castillo, and Tyler Osborne are all great actors and even greater people who have had my back through everything. They’re the best thing that has come out of my work and my experiences as an actress and I wouldn’t trade a single one for the world.
