Meet Morgan Szymanski

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Morgan Szymanski. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Morgan below.

Hi Morgan, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

I think sometimes with how difficult it can be in our day to day one of the biggest things than I strive to do is bring positivity into everything I do. Sometimes it can be difficult to stay optimistic, but it can suck an amazing difference in just the way that you live.

Whenever I start a new film project, in particular the script work I write, one of the things that is paramount in my mind is looking at how this work can inspire others to live their lives to the fullest. If we don’t remember the good things in life it can be so easy to forget how amazing I’ve can be.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I remember the first time I went to the movie theater, I can’t even remember how old I was, but I saw the animated Aladdin film in theaters and the only word I can use is wonderstruck. I think since that day I was inspired to tell stories that were larger than life, that told tales of adventure and wonder and magic.

I started putting stories to video when I wasn’t quite a teenager, filming stop motion movies with my first computer, shooting with my Lego figures in the living room. I realized in high school film was my passion and from that day on I have done everything in my power to make that dream a reality.

I went to Georgia State University to study film professionally, since then I’ve been working on small independent productions, writing, directing, production, editing, and almost every other position on set. Since 2018 I helped found the Howling Warlocks Productions team and we’ve been making no-budget Indy films since then. We have over 20 shorts and features under our belt as a team since our inception date, the newest one being our biggest production yet, the feature film REWIND.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

When I think about the things that have most important on my journey the word that comes to me is perseverance. When you refuse to give up, when you are always arriving to succeed it’s impossible to lose. There may be setbacks, but the only way you lose is if you stop playing the game.

Another quality that has helped me is the self motivation. Being able to motivate yourself into action makes such a huge difference when it comes to creating. When you focus on perfection you end up in a loop of never finishing your work. Perfectionism is just an excuse for procrastination. You have to push yourself to go and do the things you want or you’ll never truly achieve what you set out to do.

Finally, optimism in my work has made such a difference when it comes to success. you can’t let yourself be taken down by your own negativity. It all works together, striving for success and never giving up is what changes your life, and the most important step is always the next one.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

Honestly, I am so grateful for my amazing mother, Rose Bianco for everything she has done to help me get where I am. She grew up in Puerto Rico and studied theater in Chicago, since then she has been my biggest inspiration. She always encourages me in my growth as an artist, and has been an immeasurable help in co-producing my feature film REWIND.
