Meet Mrs. Melanin Reigns

We recently connected with Mrs. Melanin Reigns and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mrs. Melanin Reigns , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Honestly, my purpose found me in the most unexpected way. It all started back in high school when I found an ankh lying on the bathroom floor. I didn’t even know what it symbolized at the time, but I felt drawn to it, almost like it was waiting for me.
From that day on, things around me started to shift. I started seeing little signs, alignment and awakening more and more. Not long after, I watched a short film in class that introduced the word conformity, and that word stuck with me. It made me realize how much people mold themselves to fit in, how easily individuality gets lost in the noise.

By the time I got to college, that realization grew louder. I finally felt free from the structure of high school. College was a lot larger and I felt free to think, question, and explore. I started spending time alone, journaling, walking barefoot on the grass just to feel connected to something real. I began changing what I ate and transitioned into a vegan lifestyle, which not only cleansed my body but also quieted my mind. I got involved in community cleanups, started learning more about my ancestry, and found a sense of grounding that came from reconnecting with both the earth and my roots.

Around that same time, I read A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, and it completely changed how I saw life. It made me aware of my ego, my patterns, and the false sense of self I had been carrying. The more I learned, the more I began to see the value in my being and that it was not tied to what I did or how others saw me, but simply in who I was.

As I deepened that connection, my gifts started to bloom. Creativity flowed in ways it never had before. My intuition got sharper. I started attracting people and opportunities that mirrored the growth I was stepping into. It was like life was finally responding to my alignment. That’s when I realized my purpose wasn’t something I had to search for. It had been within me all along, waiting for me to remember who I was.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Hi I go by Mrs. Melanin Reigns @MrsMelaninReigns on all social media and my website where you connect to all my streams of talent is www.melaninreigns.com.

I am truly the embodiment of a multidisciplinary creative. I am writer/author, speaker, former radio host on WOLB 1010 radio, musician, spiritual counselor, postpartum doula, and jewelry designer.
I create work that inspires, uplifts, and heals, and I’m also an advocate for women’s wellness.

Much of what I do centers on helping people reclaim their power, process emotional trauma, and navigate life’s transitions with clarity and intention.

My work spans several mediums, I design bold, statement jewelry pieces, write books that explore transformation and self-awareness, create music, and speak on topics like healing and personal growth.
Everything I create is intentional and rooted in purpose.

One of the projects I’m currently working on is “Melanin In Bloom”, which explores motherhood and matrescence. It centers on melanated maternal health and shines a light on the full spectrum of the maternal experience, including things like medical discrimination, birthing at home, the postpartum experience, community, breastfeeding, child loss, and the deep shifts that motherhood brings. Through poetry, steel jewelry, photography, and storytelling, Melanin In Bloom honors the resilience, beauty, and vulnerability of women as they navigate these profound changes.

I’m deeply grateful to Thomas Huggins, Dionne Halsey, Artreel, and K’La for bringing their artistry and energy to Melanin In Bloom. Their contributions helped turn a vision of motherhood, resilience, and transformation into something tangible and enduring.

Looking forward, Melanin In Bloom is growing into live experiences, community dialogues, and creative activations that combine art, storytelling, and advocacy. My goal is to continue building spaces where women can share their stories, honor their journeys, and celebrate the power of becoming.

What I love most about my work is that it isn’t confined to one form. Music, writing, jewelry, and conversation all become tools for healing, connection, and empowerment. Each piece, each project, is meant to spark awareness and serve as a reminder to myself and others of the sacredness of their own journey.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that shaped my journey the most are authenticity, resilience, and self-awareness.

Authenticity has been my anchor. There were so many moments where it would’ve been easier to follow trends, silence my truth, or shrink myself to make others comfortable, but every time I chose to be real, even when it was uncomfortable, life aligned in ways I couldn’t have planned. My advice to anyone early in their journey is to get comfortable being you, fully. Don’t filter your voice to fit in; refine it so it reflects who you really are. That’s where your power lives.

Resilience came from experience, from loss, heartbreak, rejection, and rebuilding. It taught me that detours are divine and that you can’t always control the outcome, but you can control your response. Developing resilience means allowing yourself to feel what you need to feel, but not letting it define your future. Learn to bounce back softer, wiser, and more grounded.

And finally, self-awareness is the foundation of everything. Learning to observe your emotions, patterns, and triggers without judgment gives you the power to redirect your life. For me, that came through journaling, solitude, reading, and being honest about my own healing process. My advice is to create space for reflection, even five quiet minutes a day can shift your perspective.

Those three, authenticity, resilience, and self-awareness, don’t just shape your journey; they sustain it. They help you build a life that’s aligned with your truth, not just your titles.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes, I’m always open to collaborating, especially with people who create from a place of passion and genuine intention. I’m looking for beautiful spirited individuals who believe in the power of purpose-driven art and are willing to do the work to bring meaningful ideas to life. The kind of people who see creativity as a form of service, who care about impact, community, and alignment just as much as the finished product.

I love working with visionaries who move with heart, who understand that collaboration isn’t about competition or ego, but about creating something that carries lasting energy. I’m drawn to people who operate from abundance, who understand the importance of balance and integrity, and who are grounded enough to build something that not only looks good but feels good.

So to anyone out there reading this, if that sounds like you, I’d love to connect. You can reach out through my website or social platforms. I’m always open to building with people who share the same commitment to creating art and experiences that inspire, heal, and evolve. @MrsMelaninReigns
