Meet Muktar Yusuf

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Muktar Yusuf. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Muktar , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Well… There was a time I was purposeless then at the age of 11 I decided to be a cartoonist/comic book artist because I used to be inspired by cartoon characters, superheroes especially Spider-Man then anime such as Naruto so I found some sort of purpose but it wasn’t enough…I felt this emptiness, this void within me that seems to be swallowing me to infinity until the Infinite came to fill the infinite…. I found my true purpose in Christ and since then my art, my creations, everything about me was New and art had meaning to me….my talent had a direction, an aim and that’s my chief end; glorify God and delight in Him and be an inspiration to others as well.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

So… I’m visual artist, a visual story teller. I paint using oil paints on canvas sometimes I dabble into digital art and illustrations. I use my art to tell stories focused on our lives’ journeys on this plain of existence and the duality that comes along with it… My paintings are a play of dark and Light, pain and Hope, Thorns and Roses…the bittersweet process of life that we experience and how those experiences forge us into the people we are meant to be and the duality work simultaneously as one…two sides of a coin if you will. We dream of a rosy life, to lie on a bed of roses and we should be prepared for the thorns that comes along with it. That’s basically what my paintings explore and I will be working on some wonderful series of paintings that will be available for sales coming new year. Anticipate having a piece to glow up your walls.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Resilience: Vision always comes pains and struggles; Pain + Vision= Passion. Don’t give up no matter what even if it kills you… People will remember you for it.

Dedication: Always put in the work. Immersing oneself in his passion and work and one day he will stand before kings and one day it will all pay off.

Honesty: Be true to yourself and be true to others. Treat others with honor as you expect to be treated and do not try to please everyone.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

Oooh boy! Ok…that’s a natural feeling everyone goes through and for me I have learnt that I’m just a man of flesh and blood and whenever I’m weak I call out for help. I have a cycle of friends, family that I trust and love dearly that I can be opened with….be vulnerable with and I get lifted up and whenever they are down I do the same thing “Iron sharpens iron” and whenever no one seems to be available and anxiety seems to be creeping in I run to my Maker and He always answers.
