Mya, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
My foundation for self-discipline traces back to my childhood, yet in adulthood, my children quietly influence this trait, unbeknownst to them. Much of what I undertake is driven by my commitment to them. I believe that by modeling resilience despite my setbacks, I contribute to their personal strength. Demonstrating that I persist without easily giving up is a powerful lesson. The strategies I employ for self-discipline include goal writing, crafting vision boards, acknowledging my weaknesses, practicing mindfulness and open-mindedness, and extending forgiveness to myself for errors or prolonged challenges.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The ability to research, patience lots and lots of patience, Having a vision and sticking to it despite if others see it or not.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Presently, my most significant challenge stems from the overall economic difficulties affecting everyone, myself included as a small business owner. The struggle revolves around the need to generate income to acquire supplies for crafting meticulously curated products. While I participate in markets, I acknowledge that I could do more in this regard. Despite my gratitude for loyal, long-term customers, the pricing dynamic poses challenges. Some potential customers question or hesitate at the prices, comparing them to mass-produced candles available at larger retailers like Walmart, Bath and Body, or Target.
The misconception lies in not recognizing the care, love, financial investment, and effort small business owners put into their products, in contrast to the more impersonal and less environmentally conscious approach of larger corporations. Consequently, the ongoing financial strain and the need to educate customers about the value of supporting local businesses and environmentally friendly products present continual hurdles.
