We were lucky to catch up with Mychel Sullivan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mychel, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
When I wanted to find my purpose in life I just looked at the some of the gifts God blessed me with and decided how I could best use them to bring value to the world.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a visual artist — I use painting, drawing, mixed media, and other mediums to showcase my favorite themes, styles and messages in life.
One thing I love about art is the endless opportunities it brings, almost too many to chase. These days I’ve been focusing on ways to tie my work as a creative to different target audiences. You can call it “Art with a Purpose”.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most important qualities/skills I’ve needed on my journey as an artist are fearlessness, dedication, and adaptability. Fearlessness because sometimes putting yourself out there can be intimidating, especially as a beginner stepping outside your comfort zone.
Dedication because sometimes you won’t be motivated to create. But being dedicated and remembering why you started can help during those times.
And being adaptive has been important as an artist because it allows me to find new ways to express myself as well as new techniques and mediums to experiment with.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
This past year I’ve grown the most in how I think about my work conceptually. I used to focus mostly on just aesthetics and composition, but now I’m thinking about why I’m making what I make and the bigger purpose behind it. That’s made my work more intentional and also given me more direction for the future.
