Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Myra Hollis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Myra, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
My confidence has been a life long journey, I think about something my mom told me as a kid which was always hold your head high. She meant it literally and figuratively. There is something special about walking with your head high that tells your brain that you can conquer the world. I notice on days where I don’t feel as highly about myself when I push myself to hold my head high a shift happens.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I do a little bit of everything. My two most proud things are Resilient Tea and FEM Scholar. Resilient tea is an event that I host at the end of every year that is like group therapy over a warm cup of tea. It is a space for women to come together, be seen, cry and laugh. It has been a healing space for me and many others.
FEM Scholar is a nonprofit I launched 9 years ago that focuses on supporting women in their dreams rather it be going to college or the entrepreneur route. As a therapist I am always yearning for ways to use my tools outside of the therapy room and these two spaces have granted that for me.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being organized, being okay with making mistakes and always asking for help have been most impactful in my journey. As far as folks on their journey I would say challenge yourself to do these three things.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents believing in me has been most impactful, I feel I can do anything because I know they will back me up.
