Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Myron Curry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Myron , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience is something I’ve forged through my life experiences—each challenge shaping me into the person I am today. As a Black man navigating a system that often feels stacked against me, I’ve faced significant obstacles, including periods of incarceration and the loss of loved ones. These experiences have taught me that while life can be harsh, it also offers the opportunity for profound growth.
I draw my resilience from the belief that every setback can be a setup for a comeback. My passion for art and community serves as a driving force; I use my voice and skills to empower underrepresented communities and inspire others facing their own struggles. Supporting organizations that uplift seniors and at-risk youth reminds me that resilience isn’t just a personal journey—it’s collective. We rise stronger when we lift each other up.
Moreover, I find strength in storytelling. Sharing my journey and hearing the stories of others reminds me that we are not alone in our challenges. There’s incredible wisdom in our shared experiences, and that connection fuels my determination to continue pushing boundaries, both in my art and in life. Ultimately, resilience comes from recognizing that our stories can inspire change—not just for ourselves, but for our communities as well. This is the essence of living boldly, and it’s what motivates me to keep moving forward.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
At M. Curry Designs, we’re dedicated to creating a vibrant space where underrepresented voices can thrive and showcase their creativity. As the owner and a multifaceted artist, I blend my passion for art with a commitment to social impact. We host workshops and events that allow individuals to engage with the art industry and with each other, fostering a sense of community.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities that have been particularly impactful are resilience, creativity, and community engagement.
1. Resilience: Overcoming challenges—like incarceration and personal loss—has taught me the importance of bouncing back and learning from adversity. For those early in their journey, I advise embracing setbacks as opportunities for growth. Build a support system of mentors and peers who can help guide you through tough times, and always keep your vision in focus. Remember, resilience is a muscle; the more you exercise it, the stronger it becomes.
2. Creativity: My artistic practice is not just about producing beautiful work; it’s a way to express complex emotions and spark conversation. To cultivate creativity, I encourage aspiring artists to experiment without fear of failure. Explore different mediums and styles, and allow yourself to be inspired by the world around you. Regularly engage in creative exercises, like journaling or sketching, to keep the flow of ideas alive.
3. Community Engagement: Connecting with others has been essential in my work, especially in empowering underrepresented voices. Building relationships within your community can open doors and create collaborative opportunities. Start by volunteering or participating in local events to get involved. Listen to the stories of those around you; they can provide valuable insights and inspiration for your own path.
Ultimately, every journey is unique, and it’s important to stay true to your values and passions. Embrace the learning process, be open to new experiences, and remember that growth often comes from the challenges you face. Your journey may be daunting, but it can also be incredibly rewarding.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The number one obstacle I’m currently facing is access to capital. As an artist and business owner, securing funding to support both my creative endeavors and community initiatives has been a significant challenge. Right now, I’m actively raising funds to save my 93-year-old grandfather’s home, which holds immense sentimental value for our family and serves as a reminder of resilience through generations.
To overcome this challenge, I’m leveraging my platform at M. Curry Designs Gallery to raise awareness and gather support. We’re organizing events and art sales, with a portion of the proceeds directed toward this cause. I’m also reaching out to community members and local organizations, sharing our story and encouraging collective action.
Additionally, I’m exploring grant opportunities and partnerships that align with our mission of empowering underrepresented communities. By building connections and fostering collaborations, I hope to create a network of support that not only helps preserve my grandfather’s legacy but also strengthens our community’s artistic voice. It’s a tough journey, but I believe that by rallying together, we can overcome financial barriers and create a lasting impact.
