We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mysheria Moore. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mysheria below.
Mysheria, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
It gets hard I can’t say it doesn’t but I’m often reminded by the little girl that lives inside of me and the things I promised her I would grow up to go on and do. When I was younger I knew early on what I wanted in life and why. And when I get down, on my worst days or when there’s haters and naysayers I think about her and those promises and pick myself up again and keep pushing.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an author of poetry by passion and interest. I developed this passion at the young age of 12 years old after being inspired by my grandfather who was struggling with cancer at the time. I would sit in his living room and he would listen to me reading what I wrote, encouraging me. He passed and I promised him I would always keep pursuing and get better. It was then I decided I would compile my work through the years and publish a book. I later went into healthcare and then the military where I served as a master-at-arms which is like a military police officer. I served 8 years part Active Duty then later the reserves while transitioning back into healthcare. Serving and being hit hard in healthcare with the COVID pandemic lead me to look into growth opportunities toward different work avenues. I found myself as a college instructor/professor teaching a medical assistant program that I later moved into doing remotely along with Chronic care management for elderly patients. I found myself missing in person patient interaction and branched back into working in the hospital doing patient advocacy which is where I am today. Business wise, I began my clothing business WCityTxCulture, LLC (pronounced Dub city Texas Culture) in November 2021 as a way to bring the passion I have for fashion and the sultry, street wear style mixed with a sense of country. This serves as tribute to the two places I grew up, being born in Houston, Texas and growing in a small country town Willis, Texas. My business has been active until 2023 when I decided to take a step back to review the direction I wanted the company to take and am currently working on revamping. I’m looking to get it back up and running with new clothing and shoe styles mid to late 2025 and possibly add a new NAICS code to branch out under my LLC. My hope is to build a fresh collection and e-commerce platform for my business with hopes to attract enough customers and someday open a store front location locally in Texas. In my spare time I volunteer as a governor and serve on the board for Military Fraternity & Sorority Alpha Omega Phi, Inc and volunteer in the community. Educationally and for betterment of self, I am completing my Masters in public Health with aspirations of going into a Doctorate of public health program after and looking to someday start a community health foundation that focuses on advancing the education of minority elderly in healthcare and progression to fight to improve health disparities. With writing well I published my second book Sunrise On My Soul: Eclipse On A Rainbow as the first part of the second book in May 2024 with plans of for part two to release late 2025, early 2026. I look forward to all the exciting things to come for my life to include my career, business, teaching etc. hopefully one day I will have two successful businesses running to be entirely in business for myself and leave working for others behind.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three things that were impactful on my journey. One, when someone tells you what you can’t do or won’t amount to don’t let that stop you, prove them wrong. Two, we can be our own worst enemy and our hardest critic if we start to believe in the imposter syndrome that what we have done and are doing in life is not enough so don’t doubt yourself. And three, boss up, always believe in yourself and present like the amazing person you are at all cost!
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel this way I tap
Into things I love. I write, I sing and I dance. It’s so freeing and relaxing which allows me to come back to focusing. If I were to give advice to others regarding this style after being overwhelmed I would say to spend time things on the things you enjoy and how they too offer you relief.
