Meet Nabil Mardini

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nabil Mardini a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Nabil, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Self-Reflection: I take the time to reflect on my values, interests, and strengths.

Passions and Hobbies: I explore my passions and hobbies.

Set Goals: I align my short term and long term goals with my values so they can contribute to a sense of purpose.

Helping Others: Making a positive impact on others.

Life Experiences: I often reflect on significant life experiences and challenges. I believe that overcoming obstacles can lead to personal growth and a clearer understanding of one’s purpose.

Education and Learning: Continuously learn and expand my knowledge. Sometimes, discovering new interests and skills can open up new avenues and contribute to a sense of purpose.

Connect with Others: I enjoy engaging in meaningful conversations with friends, family, mentors, or counselors.

Embrace Change: I am open to change and adaptation.

Finding one’s purpose is not a one-time event; it’s often a dynamic and ongoing process. Learning to be patient is key to allow the journey to unfold naturally.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Here is what I believe is exciting about my role:

Community Building: Owners often enjoy creating a sense of community among their clients. Indoor cycling and boutique fitness studios provide a space for people with shared interests to come together, fostering a supportive and motivational environment.

Impact on Health and Well-being: Many studio owners are passionate about promoting health and well-being. Seeing clients achieve their fitness goals and improve their overall health can be highly rewarding.

Creativity in Class Design: Owners often have the opportunity to design unique and creative classes. This allows for innovation in workout routines, music selection, and overall experience, keeping clients engaged and excited.

Personalized Experience: Boutique fitness studios often offer a more personalized experience compared to larger gyms. Owners can connect with clients on a more individual level, tailoring classes to specific preferences and needs.

Brand Building: Creating and growing a brand is a significant aspect of owning a fitness studio. Owners may find excitement in developing a unique brand identity, marketing strategies, and a distinct studio atmosphere.

Entrepreneurial Spirit: Owning a fitness studio allows individuals to express their entrepreneurial spirit. Making decisions about the studio’s direction, expansion, and day-to-day operations can be both challenging and fulfilling.

Positive Impact on Mental Health: Exercise is linked to mental well-being, and many owners find satisfaction in providing a space where clients can improve their mental health and relieve stress through physical activity.

Constant Learning and Adaptation: The fitness industry is dynamic, with new trends and research emerging regularly. Studio owners often enjoy the continuous learning process, staying updated on industry developments and adapting their offerings accordingly.

Celebrating Client Success Stories: Witnessing clients achieve their fitness goals and celebrating their success stories can be one of the most rewarding aspects of owning a fitness studio.

Flexibility in Business Management: Owning a boutique fitness studio provides a level of flexibility in terms of business management. Owners can experiment with different approaches to find what works best for their unique vision and goals.

While these aspects can be exciting, it’s important to acknowledge that owning and managing a fitness studio also comes with challenges. Successful studio owners often navigate a balance between their passion for fitness, business acumen, and a commitment to providing a positive experience for their clients.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities:

1) Work Ethic. You got to wake up and have the attitude of outworking the competition.

2) Perseverance. If it weren’t for this, we would not have survived the pandemic

3) Relationships. It is all about building relationships and staying true to yourself and to your values.

My advice to the young folks is to never compromise their core values and what they stand for.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
One of the hardest things I face as a business owner is dealing with the unknown after Covid. It has never been the same after the pandemic.
