Meet Nadine Emrich

We were lucky to catch up with Nadine Emrich recently and have shared our conversation below.

Nadine , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I like to start a creative project so I know I will commit to it. I see the small pieces, then think how I can grow this imaginary in my mind into a reality. It can be a song, music video or an acting part. Losing a piece of myself or finding one is something that keeps me driven in the arts. I think what keeps me creative is being alone, and listening to beats, or reading plays. Sometimes what keeps my creativity alive is remembering what some of the most inspiring people along the way have told me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an actress, singer. I also write my lyrics for my music. I have dabbled also with screenwriting. I wrote a short film called “Sweet Cider”. It’s on YouTube with also my music videos. It’s exciting to share my voice with people. When I was young I used to write poetry when I was sad. I grew up missing my mother not in my life. So I would write poems to let go of the pain. As an adult it manifested into me becoming a writer. Acting to me is a piece of heaven on earth. When I am lost in a role I feel truly alive. I don’t know how many times I have been on set thinking “wow, this is where I belong”. It always felt right, on a stage in front of a theater of people, or on a set in-front of a crew and a camera.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back three of the most important things to me is. Always go into a project with a beginners mind. I feel like I have learned more that way. Not having a huge ego like I know it all. Because I don’t and it takes a lot of people to help you in your career. You can’t be a know it all as an artist. You need to always stay flexible and moldable to a new project. Learn more about yourself and dig deep in studying your craft as an artist. Sometimes when I’m on a TV set my training as an actress kicks in automatically. And in that moment I know all those expensive acting classes and conservatories paid off.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I love to give credit to people who have helped me grow. You never know who is going to help your journey along the way. Even small talk in a tire shop can be a memory you take for the rest of your life. I only say that because right before I drove to Vegas for a film to get my union card a guy in the tire shop told me that if I look up to the sky and see a plane. Before that plane existed it was a dream that people would say is crazy. I give tons of credit to my grandmother rest in peace. She gave me tons of encouragement to live my dreams. She even would practice scripts with me and watch me sing before performances. My acting teachers along the way. And my best friends Amanda Hawking and Leandra Kelly go on crazy adventures with me filming my music videos. I have also been blessed by my boyfriend Val Valdez who supports my music by getting me started recording my own music so I can be creative at anytime. I also have my friend Jason Mercado who helps me with my auditions for TV. There are many more people I can name but it would take all day to read this answer!! Since it takes a village to have success in the entertainment field.

And John Schultz my manager who is also a big piece of that village!
