We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful NADINE ROBINSON. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with NADINE below.
NADINE, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
Developing my ability to take risks has been a journey shaped by my unique experiences and challenges as a Black woman. Life hasn’t afforded me the luxury to take risks lightly, and often, I find myself making fear-based decisions out of a scarcity mindset or a sense of urgency. However, I’ve learned to rely on my capabilities, competencies, and courage over time.
I trust that God has a greater plan for my life, and His vision is already in action. Embracing this belief, I am showing myself the grace to trust without fearing failure. This trust in His plan and my abilities has empowered me to take risks with conviction, knowing that each step I take is part of a larger, divine design.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Back in 2020, when the world went into lockdown and I had just welcomed my fourth child, I felt a stirring deep within me. I knew it was time to shift gears, not just for myself but for others too if I could. Drawing on my life-saving writing skills, I launched a newsletter aimed at uplifting Black women during those uncertain times. It became a beacon of empowerment, a space where they felt seen and heard.
The funny thing is, folks started asking if I did coaching. At the time, not officially! But that planted a seed, and before I knew it, I was on a journey down the less-travelled road. Fast forward to 2021/22, I took the plunge and became a certified Life Coach and NLP practitioner. Armed with this new knowledge, I carved out safe havens for Black women to gather, share, and heal together.
A few online meet-ups blossomed into group sessions, one-on-one chats, and even free workshops. With each interaction, I not only witnessed the potential in those I was guiding but also in myself. Remembering the heartbreaking stories from my Masters about the Black experience, I couldn’t help but notice how little had changed. Black lives were still being taken, day in and day out, without a second thought.
That realisation fuelled my fire. I knew I had to step up, not just as a coach, but as a guide, advocate, and educator. So, I merged my passion for writing with my coaching skills, creating a unique blend of therapy through words. Scouring the internet, I stumbled upon a qualification in this specific form of therapeutic practice, and the rest is history!
Now, here I am, the dynamic Writing Therapy Coach you’ve come to know. And let me tell you, the journey has been nothing short of transformational!
My approach combines compassionate guidance with empowering insights, as we work together to craft a narrative that aligns with your true essence. Through deep exploration and reflection, we’ll uncover your unique strengths, passions, and purpose, paving the way for transformation and growth.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, self-awareness, and the ability to build meaningful connections.
Resilience has been crucial. It’s the quality that allowed me to navigate through the challenges and setbacks that life inevitably brings. It’s about bouncing back, learning from failures, and moving forward with a renewed sense of purpose.
Self-awareness is another key element. Understanding my strengths, weaknesses, and triggers has helped me make better decisions and stay aligned with my goals and values. It’s about being honest with myself and recognising where I need to grow.
Building meaningful connections has also played a significant role. Relationships with mentors, peers, and my community have provided support, guidance, and new perspectives. These connections have enriched my journey and helped me see opportunities where I might have otherwise missed them.
For those early in their journey, I advise focusing on these areas. Develop resilience by embracing challenges as learning experiences. Cultivate self-awareness through regular reflection and feedback. And invest time in building genuine relationships, as they will be invaluable sources of support and wisdom throughout your journey.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client base consists of individuals from Black and Brown communities who are seeking personal growth and self-improvement. These clients are typically motivated and open-minded, eager to explore new perspectives, and willing to engage in self-reflection. They often find themselves at a crossroads or facing significant life transitions, looking for guidance to gain clarity on their path and build confidence in their decisions. Appreciative of writing as a therapeutic tool, they recognise its power to facilitate healing and personal insight.
Moreover, they are willing to invest in themselves, understanding that personal growth requires time, effort, and sometimes financial commitment. My clients come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, but they share a common goal of wanting to lead more fulfilling, empowered lives. They appreciate a supportive, inclusive environment where their unique experiences are respected and valued.
