We were lucky to catch up with Nadira recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nadira, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Creativity, to me, is an infinite source of energy. It feeds my soul and mind. In order to keep my creativity flowing I had to realize that it will always flow to me and with me if I allow it. The secret is finding beauty within daily things. If we look at it as a whole, life could be very overwhelming and possibly very tiring. Instead, I learned to dissect it into beautiful and special moments. I walk around earth looking for beauty and inspiration, and in return earth supplies me with inspiration. Daily activities can turn into art if you just know where to look. For instance, an afternoon walk could feel like a chore if one does not focus on the beauty of it. The trees flowing in the wind, the sun hitting your face, the smells around you all create your reality. Therefore, your reality turns into a beautiful source of creativity if you change your mindset and learn how to appreciate the mundane aspect of life.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I started the venture into fashion photography years back, with the support of my close ones. After finding my spark through photography as a kid, I knew it had to be my life long career. Photographing those around me made me feel alive, while also giving me a chance to immortalize my most precious memories forever. There’s something extremely nostalgic about photography, and if you know me, you know how nostalgic I feel most times. After pursuing a degree in Journalism I started working in Los Angeles as an e-commerce photographer. Quickly, I realized that working with mannequins was not cutting it for me. I built a fashion portfolio through the years, almost as a hobby, until I was able to enter the world of high fashion through New York Fashion Week. During the runway shows I felt a sort of energy that I’ve never felt before. It felt almost as if I had fireworks going off inside my skull. I immediately realized that I had been daydreaming about fashion weeks because it was and is my purpose in life. Los Angeles Fashion Week, Dubai Fashion Week and Rome Fashion Week quickly followed, and allowed me to move into the world of high fashion through my hard work and dedication.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My advice to those who are starting their journey is to dream big. No matter how wild your dreams are, you can achieve them. I know it sounds cliche but it truly is the secret to success. Visualize yourself living your dream life, think of how you would feel, what you would do and even silly things like what you would wear. All will eventually come to life in Devine timing. It’s as simple as that. If you’ve tried it before, and really believed it, you’re probably living in that reality right now. Of course, it goes without saying, if you are dreaming about it but not working towards it, nothing will change. Allow yourself to vibrationally become who you dream of.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Not a book, but podcasts like Huberman Lab, Duncan Trussell Family Hour, as well as listening to speeches made by Alan Watts allowed me to understand my brain and how to rewire it. I suggest to give them a listen, if you haven’t already, and allow yourself to believe that you can do whatever you set your mind to.
