We recently connected with Nadjhla Gracia and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nadjhla, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose through a combination of lived experiences, passion, and perseverance. Growing up in Miami, I was always drawn to the colors, textures, and movement of fashion, especially in how it reflected identity and culture. I didn’t initially know that this love would become my life’s work, but every sketch, every stitch, every late night sewing prom dresses for friends slowly revealed something deeper: that fashion could be more than beauty, it could be storytelling.
Over time, I realized my true purpose wasn’t just to design, it was to create pieces that empower, celebrate heritage, and spark joy. Launching NADJEA allowed me to turn that vision into reality, and being featured in exhibitions like Waves of Style at HistoryMiami Museum reaffirmed that I’m not just designing swimwear, I’m preserving a legacy and paving the way for the next generation of creatives.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I design with the hope that every woman who wears NADJEA feels confident, seen, and connected to something greater, whether that’s her own sense of self, her roots, or her environment. Right now, one of the most meaningful highlights of my journey has been being featured in the Waves of Style: Swimwear Through the Decades exhibition at HistoryMiami Museum. It’s an incredible honor to be featured in a space that academically explores the evolution of swimwear and its cultural impact. To see NADJEA included in this historic narrative reminds me that fashion is not only about aesthetics, it’s a reflection of time, heritage, and identity.
Professionally, I’m focused on continuing to grow NADJEA as more than just a swimwear brand. We’re expanding into resortwear and lifestyle, developing pieces that still carry the bold, artful spirit we’re known for but in new forms. I’m also committed to creating more platforms for collaboration through events like our annual Art Deco Fashion Show, which merges fashion, history, and storytelling. It’s such an exciting time, and I’m truly grateful to be on this journey, building a legacy, one piece at a time.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful ingredients in my journey have been resilience, curiosity, and a sense of humor. Yes, fashion can be glamorous, but it’s also filled with late nights, unexpected setbacks, and moments where all you can do is laugh and keep going.
Resilience helped me power through grad school while pregnant and launching my boutique. Curiosity kept me learning, whether it was mastering pattern making or diving into sustainable fashion systems. And humor kept me sane during fashion show chaos and last-minute fittings.
My advice for those just starting out: be open to learning, give yourself grace, and stay true to your creative voice. Skills can be taught, but passion and authenticity are your superpowers. Keep showing up, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to laugh through the messy parts, that’s often where the magic lives.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, always! I love collaborating with creative minds who bring fresh energy, good vibes, and a shared passion for storytelling through art, fashion, and culture. Whether you’re a photographer with a bold eye, a stylist with a flair for drama, a DJ who knows how to set the mood, or even a fellow designer with a wild idea, we should definitely talk.
At NADJEA, we believe in the power of creative chemistry. If you’re reading this thinking, “Wait… this sounds like my kind of energy,” then don’t be shy! Slide into our DMs or reach out via email. Let’s make something beautiful, meaningful, and maybe a little unforgettable.
