Meet Naii Vegas

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Naii Vegas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Naii , thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?

Taking risks has been a part of my journey from the very beginning. Leaving Venezuela in 2018 and starting over in Colombia taught me to embrace uncertainty and adapt quickly to new environments. During those 3 years, I traveled the world, learning from different cultures and experiences, which gave me a broader perspective and the courage to face the unknown.

During those three years, I launched Creative Buildr Studio during the pandemic, which was my first step toward building something like a business Woman.

When I arrived in Washington DC in 2021, I knew I wanted to build something meaningful, so I started Creative Buildr Studio. It wasn’t easy—starting a business in a new country is a leap of faith. But I’ve always believed that risks come with opportunities to grow.

Each project I’ve taken on, each collaboration I’ve pursued, has been another chance to push boundaries and learn. Taking risks isn’t about being fearless; it’s about believing in your vision, even when the path ahead isn’t clear. That belief has brought me here, and it continues to drive me every day.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m Naii Vegas, and I’m a Venezuelan designer based in Washington, DC. Through my studio, Creative Buildr, I focus on creating wonderful spaces and experiences that blend design, craftsmanship, and modernization

I discovered the power of creativity in challenging times. Over the years, the studio has evolved, and today we specialize in comercial interiors, designing custom furniture, residential interiors, and art installations for restaurants, retail spaces, events, and more.

What excites me most about this work is the opportunity to connect with people—clients, collaborators, and communities—and bring their visions to life. Every project is a chance to tell a story, and I find so much joy in shaping spaces that reflect the personality and purpose of those who inhabit them.

Right now, I’m working on several exciting projects around of the DMV area including commercial interiors and event installations that push the boundaries of creativity. I’m also exploring new ways to expand Creative Buildr, both geographically and conceptually, while keeping sustainability and innovation at the heart of everything we do.

To me, design is not just about aesthetics—it’s about creating environments that inspire, connect, and leave a lasting impression. I hope to continue collaborating with individuals and businesses that share this vision, and I look forward to seeing where this journey takes us next.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Faith in the process: Confidence in God, staying grounded, and trusting that everything falls into place when you show up with purpose.

Organized creativity: Balancing timelines, ideas, and execution—because great design needs structure to shine. Investing time in planning has been one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned over the years to get where I am today.

Building genuine relationships: Listening, learning, and collaborating with those around me. Everyone brings unique talents to the table, and when we work together, projects turn into something extraordinary.

so To grow in the creative world, stay curious, stay kind, and trust yourself—even when the path isn’t clear. Great things happen when you embrace the process.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

The Bauhaus Book” by Magdalena Droste has been pivotal in my journey as a designer. More than just a book, it encapsulates the history of the groundbreaking German school that redefined design by promoting the concept of learning by doing. It emphasizes the importance of trial and error, working with real materials, and transforming ideas into reality through experimentation.

This book remains a treasure for me because it serves as the foundation for understanding design as a discipline that transcends art. It highlights design as a practical tool—a solution-driven process where every product or composition emerges from the need to solve a problem.

Perhaps the most impactful lesson for me has been realizing that design is a useful art. It activates all the senses, extending beyond aesthetics to create meaningful, functional, and transformative experiences. This perspective has profoundly shaped the way I approach my work and view the role of design in the world.
