We recently connected with Nana Taimour Oldach and have shared our conversation below.
Nana , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I have always been inspired by art, history, culture and botanicals. Exploring different cities and landscapes, sourcing new or vintage objects, and continuously learning how different people live and interact with the world around them, feeds my soul and helps me discover transformative ways my clients can be their best selves. I believe that everyone should always be learning in our dynamic world so we can best advance with it. I do this by surrounding myself with music, art, film, travel and historical research.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the founder and principal designer at The Luster Kind. The Luster Kind is a Los Angeles-based boutique design studio dedicated to transforming the style, use and engagement of both private and public spaces. Rooted in design history, ancient and modern art and architecture, my studio reimagines interiors for all abilities in a world I see as multicultural and full of new talent and ideas.
Our world today is an influx of fast images, fast fashion, expendable, low quality furnishing and DIY compromises. My studio emphasizes quality and sustainability and is committed to showcasing craftsmanship and materiality.
My focus will always be the client’s experience and my vision, to create unique, functional, refined designs that transcend eras and inspire my collaborators for years to come.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe mentorship or working in the field that you are pursuing is essential. My journey started by working for an interior designer where I was mentored and trained on the design and business side of the industry and then I also worked in manufacturing and product management. With this knowledge I was able to form a business, taking into consideration all the different aspects and inner workings for most success. I also believe that persistent learning is vital for personal and professional growth and overall success in our evolving world. Third I would say team building. With the right team you can do anything and go anywhere. Any business is a collaborative effort.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone that is able to trust me 100% and allow me the freedom to experiment and take risks in bringing a vision to life. With this trust I can best collaborate and bring the most authenticity and uniqueness to a given space.
