Meet Nancy Rivas

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nancy Rivas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nancy below.

Nancy, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?

My self-discipline stems from a mindset of unshakeable focus, almost like tunnel vision, where I tell myself there’s no room for excuses or failure. Every day, I set personal challenges and commit to finishing them. I believe in the power of hard work and repetition—these are the foundations of my success. Even on days when I face struggles or feel emotionally low, I’ve learned that discipline means acting on intention rather than emotion. It’s about pushing through, no matter what, and staying true to my goals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My name is Nancy, I’m 37 years old, and I started my business at 28. What drives me every day is sharing my knowledge and helping clients gain the financial education they need to build their dreams. I get to teach them the importance of starting trucking permits, forming corporations, building corporate credit, obtaining DUNS numbers, and understanding that, in some cases, you don’t need US Documents to get a business up and running, this allows more immigrants consider starting a business and that helps the economy!

What’s truly exciting for me is witnessing my clients’ journeys—from starting with just one truck to growing into fleets of 12 or more. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that I’m helping people build something meaningful, and their success fuels my own drive. The trust they place in me and the referrals they make reinforce that I’m making a real difference. Plus, knowing I can create job opportunities and support my team adds another layer of fulfillment. For me, it’s not just a business; it’s a way to change lives.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

When I started my business, I faced many challenges. People doubted me, didn’t believe in what I was doing, and often didn’t follow through on promises to help. But I quickly realized that my ‘why’—my purpose and vision—had to be stronger than any obstacle or lack of support. Just because someone couldn’t or wouldn’t help didn’t mean I could afford to give up. Resources are out there; with the internet, you can learn nearly anything, call local authorities to get clear on business requirements, and move forward without waiting on others.

Ultimately, it’s no one else’s responsibility to make your dream happen but your own. Once I embraced that mindset, everything changed. While it was tough and even painful at times to go it alone, I believed deeply in myself and my vision. Giving up was never an option for me—I had a son to provide for and a goal that kept me moving forward. And I’m grateful for the clients and supporters who believed in me along the way, because they’ve helped turn my vision into a reality.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed or stressed at work, I think it’s important to take a step back and make time for myself. Building a business often means pouring so much into it—nurturing it, focusing on its growth—that it’s easy to lose sight of your own well-being and family time. So, I’ve learned to carve out moments to recharge. Sometimes that’s taking a day, a weekend, or even a week off if possible.

I’ll go on a trip, get a massage, talk to a friend, meditate, pray, and practice wellness habits that bring me back to center. It’s essential to pause and take care of yourself so you can return to your work refreshed and ready to keep moving forward.
