Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Naomi Nelson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Naomi, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I think imposter syndrome is something we’ve all felt at some point, and honestly, I still feel it at times. When those moments come, I have to remind myself that I’m meant to be in the spaces I’m in. It’s only because of God that I’m able to keep moving forward in my purpose and my calling. Remembering that keeps me grounded and reminds me I’m not here by accident.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an actress and filmmaker, and for me, storytelling is about truth, depth, and representation. I’ve always been drawn to character-driven stories that feel raw and human, especially ones that give space to complex Black women on screen. What excites me most is being able to explore roles and projects that don’t shy away from vulnerability, intensity, or beauty it’s about showing the fullness of our humanity.
Right now, I’m focused on developing and starring in projects that challenge audiences while also creating space for voices that have historically been overlooked. Two projects close to my heart are my feature film After Dark and my short film Veil, which both explore themes of identity, love, and survival in ways that push boundaries of genre and storytelling.
Beyond the screen, I also see my art as a platform to use my voice. I’m passionate about spreading awareness of what’s happening within the politics of our government because too often, there are curtains thrown in front of us to distract or blind us from the truth. For me, being an artist means not only telling stories but also pulling those curtains back, so we as a people can see clearly and move with purpose.
At the end of the day, my brand is rooted in faith, truth, and courage. Everything I do whether it’s acting, writing, or producing is tied to my purpose and calling. I want people to walk away from my work not just entertained, but also moved, challenged, and inspired.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me, the three most important qualities have been faith, perseverance, and authenticity.
First, faith because this industry is full of uncertainty, and without being grounded in God and in your purpose, it’s easy to get lost. My faith is what reminds me I’m not walking this path alone.
Second, perseverance. You can’t sit around waiting for doors to open. No one is going to hand you what you want on a silver platter. You have to show up, you have to take up space, and you have to make people see you. We live in a world where our voices are often silenced or overlooked, so the only way forward is to be loud enough, bold enough, and undeniable enough that it becomes impossible to ignore you.
And third, authenticity. Early on, I thought I had to mold myself into what people wanted to see. But the truth is, what sets you apart is your uniqueness. The more I leaned into my own story and voice, the more doors opened.
For anyone starting out, my advice would be don’t rush the process. Trust in God’s timing and keep him first, stay rooted in who you are, keep putting in the work, and trust that the right opportunities will align when you’re ready for them.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I turn to prayer. I call on God and remind myself that there is only one person who can truly see all that lies ahead for me. I may be walking this path, but I didn’t create it, and I trust that it’s designed with purpose. When I’m overwhelmed, I remind myself that what is meant for me will always find me. When you really internalize and understand that truth, anxiety loses its power and doesn’t last long.
