Meet Naomi Richards

We recently connected with Naomi Richards and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Naomi, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose when I was in the hospital. After so many years of living on this earth, it took for me to go through a situation to realize that I’m not going back from where I’m coming. I had to make a change for myself to be able to reach higher places or I would still be at the same place if I didn’t take the necessary steps that I needed too. I found purpose by trusting God and not man, by leaning on him. I found purpose by being pure and honest no matter the outcome. I told myself that I’m not going to dig a hole that I can’t handle. I’d rather be able to feel and be free than to feel caged up inside. My purpose is knowing who I am and who God says I am!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

What I am focused on today is trying to get my book out and singing at different gigs. I am also trying to start to feed the homeless because in South Florida we have a lot of people who are homeless and struggling. It does break my heart to see that. I want to be able to make a difference in this world and hopefully make it better. Also, I do have a talk show that is called ‘Sassy But Classy With Nay’. I started this talk show where I engage with all age groups and share different topics about the Bible or everyday life. SBCWN is about Wo-Men (women and men) empowerment and by giving both men and women positive quotes and etc. I also started a Youth Day called GCG – God Chosen Generation, every last Friday of the month at the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Fort Lauderdale FL. Everyone is young and able to participate. I allow different engaging activities to be conducted and different games are played as well. I also host a youth concert every year. So this year will be the second hosting of the youth concert. Usually done in the month of September.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, what I think were the three qualities, skills were having faith, hope and trusting in God. I say Faith because faith is the substance of things I hope for and the evidence of things not seen. Without faith how would I have been able to overcome that obstacle that tried to be in my way. As long as I had the size of a mustard seed, I will be able to do anything but my faith was bigger than that. I trusted god and didn’t lean unto my own understanding. I knew God had the answers and I trusted him. I had hope because I hope that I would be able to get out that obstacle and stay on the straight path with God by my side. The advice I have for someone who is early in their journey is to never give up too easily. Remember that God is always by your side and he will never leave you nor forsake you. You can develop or improve by believing in yourself and putting on the whole armor of God. That’s how you fight your battles psalms 23. Read your Bible and pray and watch God do a miraculous thing in your life.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

What I do when I feel overwhelmed is sing or write music. Me being able to put my feelings or thoughts into the music helps me feel better or even praying. I say whenever you feel overwhelmed try drawing even if you can’t draw then try and sing songs that brings joy to your heart. Find something that makes you happy and if that doesn’t work then pray and cry out to the lord. I know he will hear your cry and be there to wash away that pain.
