Meet Natahia Corsey

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natahia Corsey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Natahia, really appreciate you opening up about a very personal topic with the hopes that it can help someone out there who might be going through it. What can you share with us about your journey with postpartum depression and how you overcame PPD? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

Postpartum depression can be scary because you don’t realize it’s happening until you’ve almost overcome it. You look back and realize all the emotional trauma, self-hate and unhappiness after having your baby was related to the postpartum you didn’t even realize you were experiencing. It can be especially hard in situations where you are alone and don’t have the emotional support and physical help to make it through post birth.
Unfortunately, for me, I was a single parent that had to figure everything out on my own. I had a very supportive mother who helped as much as she could while working an overnight job. I tried to push emotion out of the picture and only make decisions on logic as I knew postpartum could overpower my mind. I was forcing myself to not have emotions out of fear to succumbing to postpartum. This caused me to have little to no emotional connection to my baby boy. I did not fully understand that I was still experiencing postpartum, just in a different form. Overcoming PPD is something that I had to learn overtime. It took me about a year to realize and acknowledge my tactics to avoid it were not working. Seeing other mothers explain their experiences on social media made it easier to open up as well. I felt I was showing a weakness by admitting PPD. To move forward, I practiced communicating to family and friends how I felt mentally. I worked on showing my son emotional responses, sympathy and love needed from a mom.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a part time content creator, a full time mom, a call center representative, a future business owner and a military veteran all in one! Most of my content creation is on the TikTok and YouTube platforms. My shoe brand is expected to drop this year and I am really excited to launch!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

3 things that have taught me perseverance, discipline and the drive to keep going no matter what happens is my military experience, being a single parent and experiencing starting over during a global crisis (COVID). No matter what happens in life, you have to keep pushing forward. Take a day to mentally recover and get back out there. Life will not pause.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, I separate myself for 10-20 minutes to relax my mind and gather my thoughts. This can be stepping into a restroom at work or giving my son an activity while I go in another room. Being overwhelmed is normal and it’s ok to admit you may need some time alone. Take some time to find a quiet place and just breathe. ❤️
