Meet Natalia Almomani

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Natalia Almomani. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Natalia below.

Natalia, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from a mix of confidence and developing purpose through prayer! When you have a sense of purpose and you’re able to find meaning in life, you are able to accept change, focus on what you can control, have unwavering optimism, develop coping skills and are able to practice self-compassion.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

The Silver Root came out of a difficult time in my life (in 2018) where I was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder and this became my creative outlet.

I wanted to create a brand that would provide women with unique high quality designs, hypoallergenic (sterling silver base, no brass or nickel) but without the traditional markups which we like to consider “affordable luxury”! Fast forward all these years we’re now in a handful of brick and mortar’s all across the DMV (DC-Maryland-Virginia) and several stockists in the pipeline.

As of late, we have also expanded our brand providing permanent jewelry with gold filled and sterling chains along with extensive options of semi-precious and precious stones, charms and connectors. You can find us at our next pop-up offering both the ready to wear and permanent jewelry on our instagram page @thesilverroot. For customers that are not local, I also do offer custom bracelets and necklaces by contacting us at [email protected].

We have currently started developing a bridal line both for brides, bridesmaids and attendees as customers have been requesting bridal jewelry— pearls and wedding accessories to go with gowns and dresses. We are currently offering them locally in the DC area but stay tuned as they will be online soon at www.thesilverroot.com.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Luckily for me, I have a marketing background and an MBA so tackling the business side came quite easy but you cannot imagine the ins and outs of running a small business until you’re actually in it!

I would say the top three skills needed would be: organization, communication, a strong vision but remaining adaptable. There are moments where you have to pivot in business and listen to your audience on their likes/wants/needs and how that all fits (or not) with your vision. Growth is inevitable as a small business owner and you have to rely on yourself by staying organized, communicating to your audience, inquiries and speaking about your brand to potential stockists and especially when you do shows/pop-ups/events…friendly face and communicating both your personality and brand are essential to build that first connection.

Everything else related to the business side is easy to learn by word of mouth, trial and error or researching online. I’d say the most important part would be to build your community of local makers and share tips and tricks, collaborate and build your network. We all have been through equal parts of ups and downs but by sharing with each other you can learn and they can learn from mistakes and grow together!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

We love collaborations with other small business owners because it allows us to align our brand with brands that share either a similar story and/or are in line with our brands mission.

We have connected with multiple brands in the DC area for corporate events, local makers and holiday event initiatives and of course giving back to the community— partnering with local nonprofits for auctions as well as group collaborations for giveaways.

If you’re interested in collaborating with us, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].
