We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Natalia Heredia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Natalia below.
Natalia, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I have found that when I give myself goals to complete, creativity comes to me. For example, if I tell myself to paint a certain number of paintings in a week, whether or not I have the motivation to do so, I go to my little studio and paint. Creativity doesn’t come easily if I’m not making art, it finds me when I’m constantly painting.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Even though I have loved art all my life, deciding to make it my career happened casually. One day, when my daughters were young, they asked me to buy art materials because they wanted to paint. They never ended up using them, so I decided to try them out and that’s when I fell in love with painting. From then on, I began to teach myself how to paint using online resources and in 2023, I enrolled in Milan Art Institute’s Mastery Course. It was through this course that I improved my art skills and found my artist voice.
Color is very important in my art. I use vibrant colors because they have the ability to boost energy, improve mood, and bring people happiness. My creative process begins by creating texture with acrylic inks, spray paint, paper collage, and modeling paste. Once I have made my underpainting with those materials, I paint my subject with acrylic paint and finish with oil paint. Using oil paint is key because it enhances the colors and the quality of the painting.
My objective while painting is to bring love and happiness to people. There are no words to describe the feeling that I get when I see people’s faces light up while looking at my art. It means the world to me.
My art is primarily sold through my online website, but I also participate in several art festivals around Miami and Florida. The next art festival that I will be participating in is Gainesville’s 44th Annual Downtown Festival & Art Show on Nov 15-16, 2025.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
There are many things that have impacted my journey such as having discipline, following my intuition, and reading.
I have learned that discipline is the key to success in every aspect of my life. By having discipline, I have become a much more productive person in both my work and personal life. Specifically with my art, I paint every day, and this has made me proud of myself and my art.
My intuition has also guided me to take paths that have helped me achieve my goals, helped me make the correct decision, and have led me to experience incredible things in my life.
I also love reading books about spirituality and self-help. The more I read, the more developed my knowledge about myself and humanity is.
My advice to artists that are starting their journey is to always create art. By making art often, your skills will improve immensely, and you’ll be on your way to finding your artist voice.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
My friend once recommended to me a book called “You Can Heal Your Life” by Louise Hay. This book changed my whole life. The wounds, the pain, and the resentment I felt from my past healed and disappeared. I learned to forgive because forgiveness helps us free ourselves from the heavy weight of resentment. I also learned the power that our words have and how with them, comes our power to manifest what we want. I became a much happier and more optimistic person after reading this book. I recommend it to everyone because you can learn so much from it.
