We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Natalie Gonzalez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Natalie, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
Self-care is often overlooked or misunderstood as a chore, but it should be the starting point to your well-being and happiness. I focus on simple habits that I can enjoy doing every day, consistency and passion is key. It’s about doing the things that make you feel good, not just physically, but mentally. For me, this means incorporating activities like cardio and spending time in the sauna as part of my workout routine. These aren’t just activities I push myself to do, but I actually look forward to them. I’ve noticed that when my self-care involves things I enjoy, I’m naturally motivated to keep doing them. This creates a positive long-term cycle that benefits my health and mindset.
The principle of self-care enjoyment goes beyond exercise and can apply to nutrition as well. Healthy eating doesn’t have to mean sacrificing delicious and appetizing foods. Instead, it’s about finding nutritious options that you truly enjoy, so eating well becomes a lifestyle, not a struggle. I believe there are moments when you can enjoy your favorite comfort foods but replacing healthier versions of them to help maintain balance. I’ve learned that when my meals are wholesome, I feel more energized and full of life.
Here’s a quick inside look on my daily routine: I start my morning with a warm herbal tea, followed by an early workout. Afterwards, I prepare a quick high protein breakfast meal and start my workday. Taking small, rejuvenating breaks throughout the day helps prevent burnout and clears my mind, which is essential for avoiding writer’s block. It’s all about building simple, consistent habits that help me stay healthy and focused.
The beauty of focusing on the little things I enjoy is that it motivates me to continue, which makes consistency possible. It’s these simple habits that allow for bigger accomplishments. They build the discipline needed to achieve larger goals, while still appreciating life’s little joys along the way.
By staying consistent with health routines and savoring what you love, you not only move forward with your long-term goals but also find strength, happiness, and gratitude in day-to-day living. The smallest actions, whether it’s taking a moment to enjoy your favorite tea or taking a moment to soak in the bright warm sunlight – become meaningful milestones that remind you life is about progress and presence, not just outcomes.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I currently provide copywriting services to brands in the beauty and wellness industry. My primary focus is helping these brands effectively communicate their message to their customers in a way that feels authentic and resonates with them deeply. The services I offer include creating compelling website copy, landing pages that convert, engaging social media captions, detailed product descriptions, and informative blog posts.
I love being a copywriter in this industry because of the opportunity to work with brands that align with my own values. I am passionate about working with companies that prioritize sustainability, use clean ingredients, and have a strong moral philosophy. There is something truly special about using my skills to write for businesses that not only offer high-quality products but also aim to make the world a better place. I’m driven by the idea of voicing their core values and beliefs to contribute to a positive impact.
My goal is to empower companies to reach and engage their audience more effectively, reinforcing their mission and fostering trust with their customers. Whether I’m writing a product description that highlights the benefits of a sustainably made facial serum or writing a blog post on the latest wellness trends, I approach each project with the intention of aligning with a brand’s unique story and values.
My goal is not to just write content, but to create messages that matter. Messages that resonate, inspire, and connect with my client’s target audience.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I have found the 3 most important qualities for anyone trying to achieve success in any skill or job is actually quite simple, but extremely difficult to implement for most people. Surprisingly, I actually have a hard time trying to think if there are any qualities that are more important than these 3. I truly believe that you must be a quick decision maker, listener, and an organizer.
Something that I’ve always been great at in the very beginning is my ability to quickly take action. Obviously I believe there are times when you should be patient when making certain decisions (like thoroughly reading a contract), but there are times you need to act. Less talking, more walking. Talk to you about starting a business in marketing, I will beat you to the finish line. Honestly there is so much great valuable free information on the internet. But why would anyone give great information out for free? It’s because they know the majority of people will not act on that information. It’s used to build their companies’ reputation or brand. Learning how to act is something that can definitely be learned by acting more, taking more risks, and building confidence. The second I feel like this is a great idea in the mist, I need to try it. I don’t want to wait, I want to see it as soon as possible. Trying to refrain from giving myself excuses later.
Girl power!
If you are early in your career or business building an empire, you need to be a great listener. Not just to your customer/audience but to the great people you have around you. Did you know that if you like more people, more people will soon begin to like you more? That’s called charisma. It’s built by learning how to listen to people, but not just simply listen to them but really listen to them. Make them feel like they are being listened to and also actually listen to them. Do not fall asleep, act like you are better than them, or more intelligent. Everyone on this planet has something to offer, you just need to listen. Listening will help you in your sales, marketing, networking, and relationship abilities. It can be incredibly difficult because you just want to talk about yourself all day. That’s great but find the perfect moments in between you and the person you are trying to listen to.
Countless times I have heard people tell me small little details that I was able to use in a future marketing project. In marketing it is about the little things. Improving a lot of little things can eventually add up to making incredible marketing items.
Listening can occur at online forums, podcasts, with customers, or strangers at your local grocery store. The second you become a bad listener, your marketing can fall behind your market audience. For both big and small companies.
Being organized affects so many different aspects of your life. It can determine how your day-to-day life looks. As someone who has to meet a lot of deadlines, I find ways to hold myself accountable and not lose track of my projects. This looks like having an organized schedule, setting small goals, and monitoring how I spend my time. Luckily, with today’s innovative technology, there are many online resources and apps that you can use to help make your work life easier and more efficient.
We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
I believe it’s important to strike a balance between going all-in on your strengths and improving in areas where you’re less strong. Focusing on your strengths allows you to use what you’re naturally good at, which can often lead to faster success and a more fulfilling career. However, being aware of and improving your weaknesses can help you become more adaptable and well-rounded, making you a stronger professional overall.
For example, in my copywriting business, one of my key strengths is the ability to create messages that connect with customers and resonate with my client’s brand voice. I’ve always leaned into this, refining this skill to help brands communicate their story in the most compelling way possible. Focusing on my strengths has allowed me to stand out in the beauty and wellness space, work with brands I believe in, and produce quality creative work.
However, I’ve also recognized areas where I needed improvement. I invested time in learning project management tools and systems to better manage my workload. While it wasn’t as exciting as focusing on my creative strengths, improving this area allowed me to run my business more efficiently and meet client expectations consistently.
I think the key is to focus on your strengths to build momentum but not to neglect areas of improvement that could hold you back. Becoming too narrowly focused can limit growth, whereas developing a more well-rounded skill set allows you to handle a wider range of challenges and opportunities.
In my experience, working on my weaknesses has made me more capable of sustaining the success that comes from my strengths. The balance of both has been essential in helping me grow as a professional in the creative field.
