We recently connected with Natalie Moore and have shared our conversation below.
Natalie, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
When you choose to do something different, I think you’re always going to have people who have something to say about it. For me, this is something I’ve dealt with a lot. I’ve wanted to be an actress and a singer ever since I was a little kid and I’ve heard from many people throughout my life (strangers, acquaintances, and even people I was close to) that my dreams were unrealistic and that I should keep acting and singing as a hobby. As early as like kindergarten or 1st grade I remember telling kids on the playground that I was going to be a singer and they would laugh at me. And of course as you get older, people only get harsher, so that was really just the beginning. I think I’ve heard it so much at this point that I’ve learned to just tune it out. I’ve learned that as long as you believe, it really doesn’t matter what other people think or say. It definitely takes practice to apply this though and I would be lying if I said that I never felt doubtful or discouraged because of things people have said, but at the end of the day what keeps me going is the fact that I can’t imagine myself doing anything else with my life. I believe that this is my calling and what I’m supposed to be doing and that feeling drives me. Nothing anybody says could ever change that.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an actress and a singer. I also work behind the scenes with a film production company called A Greek God Entertainment doing things like editing, sound, or production assistant work. One of the really cool things about what I do is that I get to be a part of bringing stories to life. I think film and music are two of the best ways you can spread a message in an artistic and creative way. I have had the opportunity to be a part of a lot of amazing productions including Pathways, Life Like This, Hidden Lives, and A Knock, all of which were written and directed by Abraham Lopez. I am best known for playing rough and tough types of characters such as Chelsea in Life Like This and Jessica in Pathways. It’s funny because when I first started acting I was always cast as kind of ditzy and girly types of characters, so to be playing these kinds of bad a** characters present day is really cool. Life Like This has won many awards in various film festivals and is currently in pre-production of becoming a feature film! It’s a very deep story that I know is going to touch a lot of peoples hearts and lives.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think persistence, hard work, and faith are some of the most important qualities that have helped me on my journey so far. Persistence is so important because when you get knocked down you have to keep getting back up or else you can’t keep moving forward. Hard work is important because you have to be willing to work for what you want. And faith is important because if you don’t believe in what you’re working towards you’re pretty much setting yourself up to fail. The best advice I could give to develop these qualities is just to keep getting back up and remember why you’re doing what you’re doing. Having a clear vision will drive you to keep going.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
My number one thing to do when I feel overwhelmed is to pray. It calms me down and makes me feel at peace. I’m also big on making lists. I make lists literally for everything; to do lists, goals lists, shopping lists, etc. It helps me to organize my thoughts, ideas, or things I need to do instead of having them all jumbled up in my head.
