We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Natasha Hudson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Natasha below.
Hi Natasha, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is a real deal when it comes to sharing your talent with the public. You start feeling that you are not good enough, that maybe if you take one more course from a more reputable photographer, then and only then you can finally start sharing your work with others and start charging money for what you have to offer. You take that course and, guess what, doubting doesn’t really stop. What helped me to overcome imposter syndrome is my friends’ and family’s non-stop support. Finally I felt that I was ready and it didn’t disappoint – my clients became returning clients, they were referring me to their friends and family and it was and still is the biggest satisfaction when your clients keep coming to you over and over again.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am mostly kids and family photographer, but I do incorporate head shots into my routine as well.
I do a lot of themed mini sessions throughout the year that target a specific theme – Unicorn, Easter, Mother’s Day, Fall, Holiday, Christmas etc. My clients loooove mini sessions because they aren’t too long (and having smaller kids – it’s a big bonus) and they can fit any budget because I offer 3 different packages for each session. Plus it’s a good reason to renew family portraits at a great deal.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The best three qualities would be patience, consistency and willingness to keep on learning.
If you are just starting, you have to be patient as you’ll be facing many difficulties and withdrawal feelings. That’s where consistency comes in – if you don’t like the results, don’t give it up just yet – keep on trying, keep on learning, keep on improving. You’ll get there. Last but not least – if you want to keep progressing at what you do, you have to continue your learning path. There’s never enough knowledge in you to stop and tell yourself – ok, I know everything now, I should be ok. The world is changing, technologies improving, there’s so much new information pouring in every day. Don’t get stuck on your path. Keep on going!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
As I am always looking for new opportunities to make my work better, I would be happy to connect with local artists – make-up artists and hairstylists (for those Mother’s Day mini sessions), event planners etc. My IG account is instagram.com/natasha_hudson_photography
