We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nate Byrd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nate, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I credit my parents for instilling confidence and self-esteem through Biblical principles from an early age. However, stuttering began at age eight, making me feel inadequate. My parents reassured me of my worth, encouraging me with Jesus’ love. Following a mentor’s advice, I sang daily to improve fluency, and my stuttering gradually disappeared. Free to speak, I matured into a confident young man.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
In March 2018, I launched N8’s Wear, my first e-commerce business, in Atlanta, GA. My goal was to spread positivity through luxury clothing with uplifting affirmations. A couple of years later, I met an incredible Life Coach and Social Media Mentor who helped me refine my brand. She advised me to rebrand to something more universal, which led to the birth of Elev8Fashionz, LLC. I’ve since registered my trademark, scaled my business by designing modern apparel and products, and expanded my portfolio. I’m proud to be a successful entrepreneur before the age of 30.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three skills stand out as game-changers: communication, problem-solving, and active listening. My entrepreneurial mentors at a young age, seasoned local business owners, instilled in me essential skills like public speaking, professional presentation, and self-marketing. If you’re just beginning your entrepreneurial journey, remember: hard work, self-belief, and perseverance can overcome any obstacle.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I can only speak for myself and this is what I do when I feel overwhelmed, I pray and release all of my worries to Jesus. My faith in Him evolved and strengthened over the past years, and I’ve learned that well will face hard and overwhelming times in our lives, but reminding myself that Jesus will always love and help me in times of trouble, I live a stress-free life. My advice to you whenever you’re overwhelmed is focus on what makes you better mentally, physically, spiritually, etc.
