Meet Nathan Jarelle

We were lucky to catch up with Nathan Jarelle recently and have shared our conversation below.

Nathan, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Life is all about challenging yourself. Dare to be great? Fail early, fail often and then fail forward. There is no progress without struggle, and I believe that failing at a lot of things early in my life prepared me for the heartaches of adulthood. I try to approach all of my challenges with that perspective.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’ve written two books so far, I have a third on the way, and I believe I have another fifty in me. Right now, I’m still immersed in completing the “Beyond Poetry” series. It’s the story of Black teenager from the inner city who discovers poetry after losing his younger brother due to gun violence. I would like to eventually explore other opportunities to utilize my writing.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Be resilient, I can’t stress that enough. I wasn’t always a decent writer, but I worked really hard at it throughout the years, and although I took breaks in between, I never gave up.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I can’t name a particular book at this time, but I would like to share this: We are each on a different journey. Appreciate where you are now because the next step will require even more commitment.
