Meet Nathanael Nunemaker

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nathanael Nunemaker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Nathanael , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
It wasn’t easy. I haven’t always been confident in my ability to produce a good product, but a lot of that came from having just imposter syndrome. The more I practice my craft, the more confident I got in knowing that what it is that I’m producing is amazing. I spent hours and hours studying and working towards creating amazing tasting products. When you become so immersed in whatever you’re building, you study and you learn everything there is to know about what you’re making, which in turn is what builds confidence. So to answer the question, my confidence came from hours and hours spent practicing and studying my craft until I became undeniable

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I created Farmer Nate’s sauce in 2020 and officially launching in November 2021. This came from a pandemic project when I had a lot of free time. I decided to grow a bunch of different plants and try my hand at growing my own produce. My pepper plants were the one plant that grew like crazy. As a way to preserve the hot peppers I started making hot sauce and I would bottle them and give them to friends and family. I saw an opportunity and spent the next nine months creating a brand identity, getting FDA approved, and creating an LLC. As of today we sold in just around 1,000 stores nationwide, we are on amazon.com and we are on walmart.com. We also sell on our website and we do a bunch of live markets and shows. From the beginning, I never wanted to create just a Hot Sauce company. I wanted to create a condiment and flavor company. The one thing that everybody has in common, is that we all love good tasting food, which makes it so exciting to share a passion over food with complete strangers.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The tipping point by Malcolm Gladwell. I have given credit to this book over and over and over again. He talks about how to an epidemic is started just from word-of-mouth. I have based my entire marketing strategy around word-of-mouth marketing since the beginning of launching my brand and it has not failed. When a close friend tells you about a product that you should try, or a book that you should read, you are likely going to take their opinion and you’re likely going to buy that product or read that book. If somebody that is close to you, you typically trust their opinion. This also goes back to building relationships and why relationships are important. Word-of-mouth is also an extremely authentic way to market, which is another reason I believe in it.
