Meet NAYAI

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to NAYAI. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

NAYAI, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Interestingly enough, my resilience is a character trait most people tell me they appreciate about me the most. It’s one of my favorite traits as well. I think it’s something really beautiful about getting back up after something didn’t work the way you originally intended. When you can look back and see how you’ve overcome so many challenges it makes you want to keep going. That’s what keeps me going.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am Nayai formerly known as ‘Yai Imani’. I am a model, producer and an upcoming artist. I recently dropped my debut single ‘Get Behind It’ on all streaming platforms, along with a music video that you can find on YouTube. I am currently working on new music and I am so excited for what’s coming! Since I’ve started releasing music, nothing I hop on or create sounds the same, so I’m really excited to see what a full Nayai project will look like. I hope it is refreshing for my listeners. Stay tuned because it will be on its way soon!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say; throughout my journey as a creative, networking has been the most valuable part of my career. Creating a network beyond just your industry or immediate circle keeps you in the loop of many different things and can help you get many opportunities. When people say it’s about who you know and not what you know, don’t take that lightly. Really apply that mentality because it can take you places.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Within the last 12 months, I’ll say my biggest improvement has been being more consistent and motivated. There was a time when I was stuck, unmotivated, and uninspired but I knew I wanted to create again. I felt horrible watching my peers create all these amazing things but it inspired me. So since I’ve gotten back up, I realized I didn’t want to be back in that space so I started prioritizing my creativity. Everyday I wake up, I’m asking myself what can I do today to get my art out there or what can I do today to help inspire me. And that inspiration could be for a beat, a poem or song lyrics or even a cool concept for a photo shoot.
