We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nefertiti Gold a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nefertiti, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
I developed my ability to take risks because I realized that my fear of failure was nowhere near as powerful as my fear of regret. I knew that if I didn’t at least try to pursue my dreams of making music and carving out a space for myself in the entertainment industry, I’d spend my life wondering what if. That thought alone was more terrifying than any potential setback I could face by taking a chance.
When I first started, it wasn’t easy. The entertainment industry is daunting, and the path is filled with uncertainty. But I kept asking myself, What’s the worst that could happen? I could fail, sure. But even failure would be a lesson—a stepping stone toward growth and resilience. On the flip side, what if things did work out? That possibility pushed me to act, no matter how scared or unprepared I felt.
Taking risks allowed me to open doors I never imagined I could walk through. It’s what led me to showcase at SXSW multiple times, open for the Rogue Music Festival, and build partnerships with companies I admire, like BandLab, Artiphon, and DistroKid. Each of those accomplishments came from taking a leap of faith, from putting myself out there even when I wasn’t sure I’d succeed.
Ultimately, my ability to take risks was born from necessity. I didn’t want to look back on my life and see missed opportunities or untapped potential. The fear of staying stagnant outweighed the fear of trying and failing. And even now, with every step I take, I’m reminded that every risk, no matter how small, is an investment in the life I want to create.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
’m Nefertiti Gold, an electronic R&B artist blending soulful, pop vibes while incorporating technology live on stage. At the heart of what I do is a desire to connect with people through music that by creating a world of sound; it’s about creating an experience that that takes you on a journey of creation. Taking something that is just an idea and bringing it full fruition.
What excites me most about my work is the opportunity to innovate while finding joy in the music making process. I recently introduced mini CD NFC merch, which I’m incredibly proud of. These aren’t just ordinary CDs—they’re next-level collectibles. Each one is equipped with NFC technology, allowing fans to access my music, videos, behind-the-scenes photos, and even updates remotely, all without needing to log in or remember passwords. It’s a way for me to keep the connection alive long after the purchase, and it makes the experience interactive and evolving. The process only requires you to tap it against your phone to access everything and serves as a ”key” each you’d like to check out new content.
In March 2025, I’m thrilled to be performing at two incredible events. They will be in New Jersey at locations that are TBD. Both shows are going to feature new music, and I’ll have my mini CDs available for purchase, so fans can take home more than just memories—they’ll take home a living piece of the experience.
For me, music isn’t just a career; it’s a way to connect, innovate, and tell my story. My goal is to keep growing as an artist, sharing my journey, and making music that feels as special to listeners as it does to me.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I’d say there are three key qualities and skills that have been most impactful in my journey:
1. Learning to produce, mix, and master my music.
This was a game-changer for me. It gave me full creative control over my sound and taught me how to translate my vision into reality. Beyond the studio, these skills also helped me understand how to build my live shows. When you know the ins and outs of your sound, you can craft a live experience that’s cohesive and dynamic. For anyone starting out, I’d say invest time in understanding the technical aspects of your craft. It might feel overwhelming at first, but the payoff is huge—not just creatively but also in terms of independence.
2. Knowing how to edit videos.
This skill has been invaluable, especially during times when gigs aren’t readily available. Being able to create content that reaches people beyond live performances has allowed me to connect with fans worldwide. Video editing is such a versatile tool—it helps with social media, promotional material, and even storytelling. If you’re new to it, start small. There are so many free or affordable resources out there to help you learn, and even basic skills can take you a long way in amplifying your reach.
3. Learning to embrace the journey and not rush the process.
This is probably the hardest lesson I’ve learned, but it’s also the most rewarding. Early on, I felt this pressure to “arrive” at success quickly, but over time, I realized that every step—big or small—matters. The journey shapes you, teaches you resilience, and makes the end result that much more meaningful. My advice to others would be to trust the process. Celebrate the small wins and remember that growth takes time.
Each of these qualities has been pivotal to where I am today. For those just starting, my advice is to remain curious and patient. Invest in your craft, be consistent, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone—you never know what skills or experiences will push your journey forward in unexpected ways.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Absolutely, I’m always open to partnering and collaborating with like-minded individuals or organizations. Right now, I’m particularly interested in working with a talent agent who can help me expand my opportunities—not just in music, but across the broader entertainment industry.
I’ve been a voice-over actress for years, lending my voice to the popular Treal Toonz animation series, and I’ve built a solid foundation in music as an artist and content creator. Beyond that, I’ve gained traditional beauty modeling experience through various photo shoots, and I’m eager to explore new avenues, including acting in scripted comedies. I’d love to take on a role in something with the tone and humor of The Office or Abbott Elementary.
If you’re a talent agent, casting director, or part of a creative team looking for a versatile artist with a strong work ethic and a passion for storytelling, I’d love to connect. You can reach out to me via my website or my email and I check those very regularly.
