We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Neftali Hernandez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Neftali below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Neftali with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Growing up in Puerto Rico and then moving to Georgia at a young age instilled in me the importance of adapting and working hard to achieve one’s goals. My family has always been a significant source of inspiration, displaying an unwavering work ethic in the face of challenges. Their resilience and determination in providing better opportunities for our family were instrumental in shaping my own approach to work.

Moreover, my educational journey also played a crucial role in honing my work ethic. Balancing academic responsibilities while being actively involved in extracurricular activities taught me discipline, time management, and the value of dedication.

The desire to excel and make a meaningful impact in whatever I pursue drives my work ethic. Whether it’s delving into a character on set or weaving narratives in my writing, I am propelled by a commitment to authenticity, continuous learning, and a passion for connecting with audiences in a meaningful way.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
So, at the heart of it all, I’m an actor and author, constantly caught between the real and the imaginary. Acting is this incredible playground where I get to slip into different skins, see the world through myriad lenses, and just delve into what it means to be human. Each role is like a new adventure that often teaches me a thing or two about myself and the world around me.

Now, when it comes to writing, it’s a whole different kind of adventure. My first book, “Dragon’s Fire: Rise of the Elementals,” was my ticket into this boundless world of fantasy where anything is possible. It’s kind of magical, you know, starting with a blank page and ending up with a world teeming with characters and stories.

What really gets my heart racing is when people connect with my work, whether they’re finding a piece of themselves in my characters or getting lost in the worlds I create. My brand is all about exploring the human experience, with a sprinkle of magic, both in front of the camera and on paper.

Oh, and speaking of paper, I’m currently knee-deep in my second book. It’s a thrilling yet challenging ride, but every word, every page, brings me closer to sharing another journey with my readers. I’m super excited about it!

Both my cultural and educational background has also seasoned my work. It’s this rich backdrop that I pull from, whether I’m on set or writing away. Through my work, I’m all about sparking thought, bridging cultures, and hopefully, providing a tiny escape or a hearty laugh. The goal is to leave a bit of a lasting spark, something that sticks with people long after they’ve left the theater or turned the last page.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey thus far, I’d say the three pivotal elements that have played a significant role are empathy, adaptability, and continuous learning.

Empathy:
My background in psychology greatly honed my empathetic understanding, which has been a cornerstone in my acting and writing endeavors. Being able to step into someone else’s shoes, to feel what they feel, and to understand their world is a gift that helps in portraying characters with authenticity and writing with a touch of reality. For those starting out, nurturing empathy can be as simple yet profound as engaging in diverse conversations, reading widely, and being open to experiences that broaden your horizons.

Adaptability:
The shift from aspiring to be a psychologist to diving into the realms of acting and writing required a level of adaptability. Life threw me a curveball, and the ability to adapt led me to discover my true passions. For newcomers, being flexible and open to change, even if it leads you down an unforeseen path, can be incredibly rewarding. Embrace the unexpected, as it often carries the seeds of profound growth and self-discovery.

Continuous Learning:
The domains of acting and writing are ever-evolving, and there’s always something new to learn, be it a technique, a perspective, or a skill. I’ve always pursued learning opportunities, whether formal education or self-taught endeavors, and they have significantly enriched my craft. For those at the onset of their journey, I’d encourage a mindset of perpetual learning. Attend workshops, read books, seek mentorship, and remain curious. The more you learn, the more dimensions you add to your craft.

In this expedition of creative pursuit, there’s no final destination but a continual journey of self-improvement, discovery, and connecting with others on a deeper level. Embrace it with an open heart, a curious mind, and a resilient spirit, and you’ll find a rewarding path laden with growth, fulfillment, and the joy of creating.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents have been my rock and my guiding lights throughout my journey. Their impact on my life is immeasurable, but I’ll highlight a couple of things that have been exceptionally significant:

Unwavering Support:
My parents have been a pillar of support throughout my life. They have always believed in my dreams, and their confidence in me has often been the fuel that keeps me going, especially during challenging times.

Resilience:
Life’s ups and downs were navigated with a sense of resilience and grace growing up with them. My parents showcased a blend of strength and perseverance that has left an indelible mark on me. They taught me that challenges are part of the journey and overcoming them is what builds character and determination. This lesson has been a guiding light in the often unpredictable world of acting and writing.

Value of Education:
The importance of a solid education was a narrative that resonated deeply while growing up. My parents always emphasized the significance of continuous learning and expanding one’s horizons, which led me to pursue a well-rounded education. This educational foundation has not only opened doors but has enriched my understanding of human behavior, which is a resource I continually draw from in my craft.

Cultural Appreciation:
Despite relocating from Puerto Rico to Georgia, my parents made sure that our cultural heritage remained a vibrant part of our lives. This appreciation for my roots and the exposure to a blend of cultures has significantly enriched my perspective, which I believe, adds a unique flavor to my characters and narratives.

Their teachings, love, and sacrifices have been the cornerstone of my journey so far. Through each role I play and every story I write, their values continue to resonate, guiding my steps in both my professional and personal life.
