Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Neha Mhatre. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Neha, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Growing up, my parents imbibed the importance of hard work. From a very young age, they set goals for me and rewarded me when those goals were achieved. Being dedicated and focused when doing a task, be it at work or for my food blog, comes naturally to me when I set a goal for myself.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Professionally, I work in Project Management in the media industry and have about 13 years of work experience. I started working in India after pursuing my MBA and worked there for about 4 years. After that, I got married and moved to the US. I thought having an MBA would make it easier to get a job in the US. But as I applied to various jobs, I started seeing failure in the form of rejections. What kept me going was the fact that the most rejections were not for my professional qualifications but the fact that I didn’t have a work permit and no company was ready to sponsor my work visa. To working and being financially independent in India, I had suddenly become dependent on my husband for everything. It was a long two and a half years wait to get my work permit. During this time, to overcome boredom, I started cooking and baking as I’m a foodie at heart. That’s how I found my passion in life and also got an opportunity to participate in a baking competition on Hulu’s Baker’s Dozen! And that’s why even after having a professional career in the media industry, when I’m not working, you will always find me in my kitchen.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Hard work – Start by setting small goals for yourself and work hard to achieve them. The sense of accomplishment will give you the confidence to then set bigger goals.
Learn, unlearn and relearn – This mantra has helped me a lot to grow in my career and my passion. If you fail, learn from it and try again.
Dedication & focus towards your goals will take you a long way.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I take a break and re-think my strategy and approach towards my goals. I read about others experiences to learn from them.
