Meet Neila Charles

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Neila Charles. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Neila below.

Hi Neila , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I got my resilience from my culture honestly, As a Haitian woman, born and raised, I know about the Pure strength that my people always had. Remembering where I am from gives me strength for sure.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My name is Neila Rebekah Charles, I am 26 years old born and raised in Haiti. I moved to the U.S in 2010 after the devastating earthquake Haiti. Ever since I was a kid, I always dreamt of stardom. Being a star, being on TV and being famous for something, no other career choice seemed fitting for me but the life of an entertainer. When I moved to America, I felt so close to my dreams but so far. This was the land to make it, but i had little to no opportunities. I got into dance at the age of 13 and i later got into acting and fell in love. I always thought I would’ve been this prolific famous actress by now, but here I am telling spooky stories for my tik tok followers. Iife isn’t what i expected at all but like I like to say “Fuck it, we ball” at least I’m having a good time.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I would say,

staying focused on what you do; you don’t fail unless you give up.

Be delusional, believe in yourself soo much it’s clinical

Be confident, or at least fake it for as long as you need !

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

The number one obstacle that I am trying to overcome is as a natural disaster survivor, I have awful anxiety. Sometimes it makes it difficult to function. (Not all the time) but I do struggle with anxiety and I haven’t found the right tools to help me cope yet.
As a dark-skinned Haitian woman with 4c hair, and a focus on a unique niche—spooky voodoo stories—I’ve found that, even with strong support and engagement from my audience, it’s still challenging to secure brand deals and opportunities. Many brands either offer to pay me very little or expect me to work for free. Navigating the influencer space as a spooky storyteller has proven to be more difficult than I anticipated.
