We were lucky to catch up with Nell Tice recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nell, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence and self-esteem both developed over my entire life-span, but I’ve only managed to realize that now. When I was a kid, growing up with scoliosis and wearing a very noticeable back brace for most of my childhood, I didn’t know that this was actually developing confidence and self-esteem because it felt like I was being depleted of them. Each time I was made fun of or bullied for looking how I did, it was just another step in the building of character.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a business owner and media personality, I have an opportunity and platform to be able to impact people positively on not just a daily basis, but on a momentary basis. I love being able to help bring other business owner journeys to life through video and podcast production with our company, enTICEing Media. It’s extremely rewarding to support businesses and other entrepreneurs in this way. And because I never met a camera or microphone I didn’t like, it’s so exciting to step in front of the camera for our YouTube channel, Kenny and Nell, which I get to do with my husband. Traveling has always been a passion and being able to share that with an audience is just really cool. In regards to the microphone, I just love hosting my podcast, What the Nell!? where I talk to other entrepreneurs about their paths and how they impact people. Being able to be a part of providing a Jimmy Buffet-style escape every week on a live radio show called Livin’ Like Kenny on Radio Trop Rock is so fun and rewarding….how could you call any of this “work”? From these endeavors, we’ve had the opportunity to work with countless brands and formed partnerships that have turned into incredible relationships we will never take for granted.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Commitment, Resilience, and an “I’ll figure it out” mentality. There’s no school, course, or training that can TRULY prepare you for this other than life experience, along with the traits I mentioned. Commitment is essential because no matter the industry, if you’re not all in, it’s not going to work. Be prepared to do what it takes, because that is, in fact, what it takes. The resilience comes in when you get rejected countless times or when you continuously get knocked down because these are the moments that separate you from everyone else. When those who repeatedly get knocked down and refuse to get back up, you’re still standing, and that is worth its weight in gold. It’s interesting, I was just recently talking to two entrepreneurs I respect very much and we all agreed that the majority of entrepreneurship is saying “I’ll figure it out” every single day. No two days are alike and it’s likely that you will experience something daily that you’ve never come across or handled before, but you must be willing to figure it out. There is always a solution. Lean on your skills and assets, your network, and any other resource you can. You may even amaze yourself from time to time in what you’ve managed to figure out. Doing the job you’ve learned the skills for is the easiest part. The commitment, resilience and the ability to roll with the punches is what sets you apart.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I would say my network and people I’ve surrounding myself with have been most helpful. Being in the right room is everything, even if you don’t feel you belong in it. When you’re intentional about who you choose to spend time with, it changes everything. If I chose to surround myself with 5 toxic people, I’d be the 6th. If I choose to spend time with 5 inspiring, impactful, and successful people, I’ll be the 6th. Being able to call on folks you’ve nurtured meaningful relationships with, whether it be for collaboration, advice on handling a specific situation, or even just having a conversation to help get you out of the trenches means more than I’ll ever be able to convey in this message. They say never meet your heroes, but not only have I chosen to meet them, I’ve cultivated an entire network of them, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
