We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nesha Gregory. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nesha below.
Nesha, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Growing up being a young black woman in today’s society, my confidence and self-esteem took years to develop into a place of health and healing. I learned to embrace my rich skin color and hair texture by telling myself daily that my beauty is within. My flaws are what sets me apart from others and accepting them with grace has created deep admiration for myself. But again it took time, there were days when I’ve doubted myself and I allowed my thoughts to overwhelm me. I overcame that negative outlook by practicing health mental habits. Learning affirmations to say to myself, as well as learning to control my overthinking. My support system has also had a big influence on loving who I am, because they build me up and reassure me on the days where I fall short. Leaning on my spirituality and trusting God has also given me confidence to take risk and do the thing that scare me, because I never want to live with regrets,
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a newly self published author of the book “B Stands For Brilliance: A Memoir to Black Women”. I have always been excited about creating and being artistically inspired. My background in Film has motivated me to start my own podcast, “She is Me” found on streaming platforms like Spotify, Youtube and iHeart radio. I love being able to be unapologetically myself and using my own experiences as a way to relate to others. My book was recently accepted in the reading catalog at the Main Library located in downtown Toledo, Ohio. That was huge for me because my legacy always be associated to where I was raised for generations to come. Both my brands are still growing and I look forward to more content from my podcast being released on future dates !
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the three main qualities that impacted my journey are resilience, patience and being able to accept criticism. I had to maintain a level when things didn’t always work in my favor. A lot of people would ave given up, but my patience helped to stay calm in the midst of chaos and keeping going. My resilience played hand and hand with my patience, because I was so determined to execute the things that I envisioned. I had to understand that time will be a significant part of that. Criticism and accepting it without being offended helped with my perceptive. Being a creator, you can sometimes develop personal feeling to your art; yet being able to put yourself in the eyes of the consumer helps you become more relatable and remove biases.
Advice I would offer to anyone who is stating off would be don’t doubt yourself. The first step to anything is starting, so do not allow the fear of failing stop you from working towards any dream, concept or vision you have for yourself. Also note that everyday will not be good days, theres going to be days where you are frustrated, overwhelmed, stressed etc. Those days are temporary, tomorrow gets better each day.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Me and my podcast host are looking for eager creators to collaborate with! We offer candid conversations about relationships, ideas, and relevant news in pop culture.
